Is anyone else watching this game? What the hell is “Sherriff’s Safety Town?” Are you supposed to send your kids to a pretend town carved out of the swamps of Shreveport(-Bossier), LA so that they can learn how to resist the urge to chase their ball when it bounces in front of an oncoming truck? Fucking creepy if you ask me.

Played a playoff game in Plain Dealing, Louisiana my soph year of HS. NW Louisiana as a whole is, well, a hole. And I grew up in NE Arkansas so I know shitholes.

Someone contact the National Weather Service! This game is always played in a freak of meteorological nature be it rain or the devil sending the snow back up north for Jackie Sherrill. (Ahhh, the last time he would be associated with purity …) Anyway, some research should be done!

The forecast for today is 63 in cloudy, I expect sunbathing followed by hail.

I was so unimpressed with the SBC last year, this was the plan to watch the game on the way to the Cotton Bowl:

Wake up day of bowl game, drive from Tuscaloosa to Shreveport.
Arrive at gametime, get hammered on minibottle contraband.
Leave, drive to first town across the Texas line and crash.

Maximum time spent in Shreveport: 4 hours.

Tony: Ahh..the “Snow Bowl”. The last great memory MSU football fans have. Interestingly enough, the only reason it was so memoriable was the fact the game was played on FieldTurf layed on a concrete subdeck. Therefore the ground was as cold as the air temperature, allowing the snow to accumulate rather than melt like it would on a natural turf. The second half of the game looked as if it was taking place in Aspen, Colorado or on the hood of your car.

Add to it, MSU was playing in all white, and it sometimes looked as if Texas A&M was the only team on the field.

The Independence Bowl doesn’t get enough credit in my opinion – mainly because at least the bowl has the decency to pay the teams more than the minimum payout amount. $1.2M isn’t that bad for a lower tier bowl.

And while I’ve never been, so as not to be able to comment on whether it’s a shithole, at least Shreveport has casinos.
