URBAN MEYER, IRONIST.
Urban Meyer: ironist. As other have pointed out, that odd expression where he pulls his lips back to reveal his teeth may be what most would call "a smile."

I thought it wasn’t possible to love Urban any more than I already did.
Clearly I was wrong.

I’m sure Lloyd Carr is going to be pissed about these comments as well.

In a related note, DeBerry resigns from the Air Force Academy citing lack of speedy “Afro-Americans”:

I didn’t think it was possible to hate urban meyer more than I did.
I stand corrected. What an asshole.

It’s a forte…and a sign that Urban’s arrived as a coach.
by Orson Swindle on Dec 15, 2006 3:16 PM EST reply actions
since there’s no catchy name for this bcs title game, let’s just call it the snake bowl. both coaches are smarmy, weaselly, self-satisfied pricks.
and re: 2 – fuck you.

If they like you, it’s because they’re beating you.

matt,
Is Franchione the ex-girlfriend who is bangin hot and left your ass because you drove her away…but has caused you to hate all other bangin hot girls and call them whores?
by Cardiac Kids on Dec 15, 2006 3:40 PM EST reply actions
Cardiac-
Not much can be said for Alabama right now, but to call Franchione’s job at aTm “Bangin’ Hot” is quite a stretch.

Urban never fails to amuse me with comments like this. Sure, its not the Spurrier styled whity comments, but I love a coach willing to take on the media.
by Firedog on Dec 16, 2006 1:01 AM EST reply actions
I think it is spelled “witty”. And maybe it is just because Spurrier was an unabashed competitor and asshole, that I was never bothered by his bon mots, but Meyer just comes off as self-righteous. Honestly, he is more than happy to use the media when he is bashing his own players. Right now, I think he just realizes that his team could play with tOSU if they actually don’t shoot themselves in the foot, but then he remembers that he can’t run the ball forward in a straight line with his OL and he figures that he might as well grab his moment in the spotlight while he has it.

Oh, “witty”. Now i get it. I thought he meant to spell “whitey” but got it wrong. Thought we were headed towards a skin color diversion. My bad.

All florida gator fans are losers and Urban Meyer deserves a painful death.

The smiling burns.
Brian: No matter how effective ASU’s no-huddle spread offense becomes, no matter how many D I-AA championships we win, no matter how many ESPN announcers learn to pronounce “Appalachian” correctly, we will always be remembered for that cursed promo video. Live and die by the Youtube sword.

To not appreciate Meyer’s humor you’d have to be a pretty bitter, pathetic and jealous fan (aka Wolverine).
by Cruzer on Dec 16, 2006 1:07 PM EST reply actions
I’m no Wolverine, and I say Urban Meyer takes it in the pooper.

As a bulldawg I have to admit, I like Urban. Prick. I also liked Spurrier, so there you go.

I like Urban also. I’m not a Gator Fan FYI. I also liked Spurrier, any coach that refuses to let LSU wear their road jerseys at home and then beats them is alright with me. Although I will be pulling for LSU against ND. I don’t want to hear any more crying from Michigan, they had their chance and lost. Deal with it and shut up.But,if only, we were #2,it was so close,we were playing #1. You should have dropped at least 3 spots like any other team would have. Move on.

For what its worth, I couldn’t care less about a rematch in the BCS game. Florida has as much right to be there as anyone else. My rant against Meyer is exactly that. I am sure he will continue to be a successful coach as that is by far the most important thing in his life. All truly successful coaches are egotistical. Spurrier’s comment really are gloriously mean AND witty. Meyer’s are simply blunt with little intelligent humor to them. He simply has no style, and based on his actions, little substance. Discipline? something about an AK47, trying to keep Avery Atkins when his teammates had already voted him off, Marcus Thomas, Jarvis Moss and creative suspensions. Loyalty to the players and program? My RBs suck said to the national press this summer, forcing Leak into his system when amazingly enough every time Leak started chunking downfield as of old the offense actually started looking better, telling committed recruits to hit the highway the moment better ones come along, telling every single one of the 15 or so WRs he has picked up in the last two classes that they will see the ball plenty their freshmen year. You are right, I do dislike Meyer greatly. However, he has put Florida into the national championship game so I guess he is a pretty good coach. However, and I may be reaching here, but I think the moment things go sour on the field, his players won’t be standing behind him.

random question here…has everyone seen LT at least 3X year? does d wynn resemble him at all? lifelong gator here. im thinkin d wynn should be cut from the team? plz tell me someone agrees? and ED mentioning spurrier not letting lsu wear road jerseys at home is on eof the greatest things ever that im not sure people realize! coooler than anything urban will ever do, by far. anyways, holla that ’96mwanst as good as this team. ur wrong!

I really like Urban, but his quasi-PC Spurrier impersonation comes off as a little uncomfortable. He’s trying to hide his arrogance, some day, he’ll learn to imbrace it.
I look forward to seeing an onside kick to start the game against Ball State because we lost the coin toss(seriously, they are getting $$$ to get creamed by us and they didn’t defer the coin toss!) and forcing LSU to wear those horid purple jerseys.

What a dick. People use blandishments because they get asked the same question over and over and they want to at least appear civil. Sorry you put your foot in your mouth at every press conference.
by OhioDawg on Dec 18, 2006 10:44 AM EST reply actions
As a lifelong Wolverine fan, my only beef with Meyer is his lack of flashiness. I mean, if you’re going to be an egotistical self-loving maniac, embrace it, god damnit!!
Although, admittedly, I do kinda like the guy. He’s no Spurrier but you gotta admire the effort.

Urban Meyer is a gigantic douche-bag. He is NOT a good coach, he is a stupid German with good luck. He is blessed with the easiest schedule one could ask for. The SEC is overrated, they have NO DEFENSE WHATSOEVER. Everybody cries “The SEC is the best” but in reality, they suck. The fucking offensive line opens a huge hole for the running back, or in florida’s case Tim Tebow.. and he runs for 80 yards. If people think that defines a tough conference, then the SEc is by far the best conference in all of football… especially compared the the NFC North.
Anyone who thinks that crying to the media and coaches is a prick. OH, and by the way… has anyone noticed that a majority of the sports writers are from the south?? That is not biased at all is it??
Urban will fail if OSU does not choke.
