DO THE DEVIL WALK: TIFT COUNTY HIGH STAYS CRUNK.
Courtesy of reader Peter: the Tift County High Devil Walk. This is why living in the South is awesome beyond your ability to comprehend how awesome its awesomeness is.
Someone with more video chops than we've got: please, please, please put this on YouTube so that it might live forever and not die in the AJC's archives.
UPDATE: A.G. did just that, for which we declare him a badass. Much thanks!

I have been blinded by awesomeness. Or moonshine addiction. One of the two.

While you all were busy singing and dancing, we Northerners invaded again and whooped your ass.

So, can I just say that totally kicks the ass of my high schools football promo vids, (which most consisted of guys flexing and saying “Welcome to the Gun Show”).
by Socraticsilence on Dec 8, 2006 12:08 PM EST reply actions
Oh and does anyone else think it would be hilarious to recut the video (and redub the specific passages) with Duke, my god it’d up the white quotient significantly.

Old white guys dancing to rap music (even if it’s dubbed in) is always awesome! This group, however, DOES NOT include Domer MBA’s.

The white guy went from awkward to hilariously awkward to hilariously awesome in the span of 3 minutes.

“Tift County High School faces Roswell High School at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Georgia Dome.”
And I thought Texas took HS football seriously.
WOW.

Isn’t that two of your recruits this week? ;)

got the speakers working and….
Simply Remarkable. The South should bottle this stuff.
As far as the song, I always had a feeling the ‘Canes couldn’t beat a high school team. Here’s the proof.

Yep, I think I’d like to enroll my kids there. I bet it has one heck of a fine arts department.
tOSU_radar, nice catch on the exclusion of Domer MBA’s. I think they are now stuck with that image in the same vein as Ned Beatty. WhenI see him or hear his name, all I can truly think of is ’Squeal like a pig".

Very mimimal ass-whooping comes from the North anymore Rusty.
Also, loved the video. Georgia football has become a serious presence on the national scene – if Tech can have the #4 ranked recruiting class based largely on in-state kids, that says something impressive.

Actually, I go by Pete.
As awesome as the Devil Walk is, it finishes in runner-up position in the low-budge-South-Georgia-themed music video category to this masterpiece:

I’m a Blue Devil fan. There are some major college recruits on this team too. Wide receiver Israel Troupe is a UGA commit. CB- Randy Parker carries a high GPA, a high SAT score, and is being recruited by SEC powers like Florida and Auburn along with prestigious academic institutions like Stanford and Vanderbilt. Safety Jay Gaskins will also end up at a D-1 school somewhere along with punter & placekicker Charlie Edwards. #44 Josh Abbott.. one of the white guys without rhythmn is the leading tackler on the defense as only a Sophomore with around 115 tackles!! He is the son of former FSU linebacker Bryce Abbott !
The only sad part is that the song will have to be changed next year, because he mentions so many Seniors’ names.
by bluecrewfan on Dec 8, 2006 3:40 PM EST reply actions
from the article about the recruit: ‘lewd and lascivious battery’. That is an amazing title for a crime. If you’re going to do something bad, at least make sure you can spell what it is you’re doing.
by Paul M on Dec 8, 2006 3:45 PM EST reply actions
No kid with a high SAT score is choosing Auburn over Florida.
Unless…was the SAT score achieved through an independent study course?

You stay classy, Tift County.
The #1 rule of rocking is Don’t Stop Rocking.
I would also like to add that this video makes the Super Bowl Shuffle look like North Dakota Public Access.

Damn! I’m proud of my boyz! I spent a couple of years in Tifton back in the day. Football’s always been big there, but they never had the soundtrack. Until now.
Awesomeness, thy name is “Tift County”!
by Russ on Dec 8, 2006 4:11 PM EST reply actions
Awesome is as awesome does, but the song merely rips off Trick Daddy’s rip off of Ozzy. (And that’s no diss on Trick Daddy — “Let’s Go” completely rocks).
“you’d be hard pressed to find a school as integrated in the north”
Speaking as a lifelong Northerner, like hell you would. At least half of the high schools in my team’s conference were as such, and this was nearly twenty years ago. And I grew up in Indiana, for cripes’ sakes, a state not exactly known for its diversity.
Nevertheless, rock on, you Blue Devils, you…

I’m shaking my fist at you zz; everyone knows the only reason UF has high SAT numbers is because the campus is 55% Asian.
And I’m pretty sure nobody named “Rusty” is leading an invasion anywhere.
by AUAlum on Dec 8, 2006 5:52 PM EST reply actions
Yeah, it’s like “Let’s Go” ripping off Ozzy, while simultaneously ripping off “Shut Up” by making it sound like a marching band.

Given that I have it to thank for introducing me to boiled peanuts and the wonders of what lies beneath a cheerleader’s spirit panties I must also attest to the awesomeness of high school football in Georgia.
BTW – for what it’s worth:
Students in top 10% of HS class at Stanford= 89%
Students in top 10% of HS class at Florida = 85%
Students in top 10% of HS class at Vandy = 79%

Can’t wait for the Parkview and Brookwood kids see this and get their parents to dish out the cash for a professionally produced rap video complete with cameo appearance of Snoop. Everyone in the 404 and 770 knows its gonna happen.
by Dawg 05 on Dec 8, 2006 7:06 PM EST reply actions
Cruzer, there was a study once done, and the only correlation with high SAT scores ended up being the ability to do well in basic math and english classes, so feel free to hang your hat on that. Believe me, Vandy and Stanford are looking a bit beyond that, mostly at legacies. I always love it when academics play a part in a football discussion because it is, to say the least, BS.

Papa Lou, aren’t you from Valparaiso? Everybody knows there ain’t no black people in Lutheranland, much less integrated schools.
But I’m glad to see Tift County keepin’ it real. Even if they look like they’re twelve years old.

Except for the technology—grainy 8 mm instead of digital, and the music—Four Tops instead of Lil’ Trill, important things haven’t changed in 35 years… What other sports blog but EDSBS can leave one misty-eyed and mistified?
“This is why living in the South is awesome beyond your ability to comprehend how awesome its awesomeness is,” says it all. Please excuse me while I cue up the Don Williams classic, “Good Ole’ Boys Like Me,” and leave it on “Repeat” for an hour or so…

“Papa Lou, arent you from Valparaiso?”
Originally. Been in Chicago for over a decade now. But I wasn’t just referring to the local school back home in my post. Simply making the point that there are dozens of high schools in northern Indiana alone that would beg to differ that they aren’t “integrated,” per Matt’s ridiculous claim, much less the entire “up north.”
Damn, the Devils lost after all that? Bummer.
