Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

SPURRIER: "...YOU'RE STUCK WITH ME."

He's coming to Bama! He's bringing Brother Bill Oliver with him! He's...meeting with his players and telling them he's staying put.

He reportedly jokingly told them, "some of you might not like me, but you're stuck with me."

On the desert island of life, Spurrier's sticking with his girl, whose strapless dress stays mysteriously in place despite a clumsy and very preventable maritime accident.

Thought about someone else...well, he probably did. But he's staying.

Too bad Spurrier’s staying. Not that USC’s an offensive powerhouse, but I’d like them to hire Mike Shula so we can start making jokes about Cocks that can’t score…ah, forget it…nothing’s gonna beat that “Cockblocked” joke after the UF game.

The only reason Bama is in this mess is that Mike Price didn’t get cock-blocked.

Wednesday has come too early this week. Check out the mustache on that guy, the alligator-bitten fellow. Perhaps when he’s not hittin’ the pipe, he sings in a barbershop quartet.

I wonder if the crack in his blood stream gave him the strength necessary to fight off a 12 foot aligator for what has to be 10 to 15 minutes at least.

It’d take police responding to a call at least that long to get there, find him out in the water.

Also, I’m wondering how they, got the gator off him without filling it full of lead. I’d have unloaded on it first thing if I was there.

by bama_buck on Dec 1, 2006 8:56 AM EST reply actions

It makes me sad that they killed the Gator, when it comes down to it, an alligator’s life is worth more than a crackheads

Really, leaving the situation alone is win/win. One less crackhead, and the alligator thinks people taste like crack; and will stop eating people.

The Oregeron would definitely approve of this music video. He loves Huey Lewis and the News. Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in ‘83,I think they really came into their own, commercialy and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consimante professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He’s been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

It’s all about leverage.
I’d say the OBC just got himself enough extra cash for a new club membership and some sweet new Titelist irons.

I just couldn’t pull for Spurrier to get the job. I despised the man for so damn long.

To me, it was like electing Satan pope because Christianity has had a couple of bad years.

Meyer turns down opportunity to give Congressional testimony. Good for him.

by Panhandler on Dec 1, 2006 10:56 AM EST reply actions

Why doesn’t Bama just go ahead and announce that Mal has been fired also and give Spurrier both the AD position and the head coach position? That might peak his interest since we all know he doesn’t like having to answer to ADs.

by Huntsville Rebel Fan on Dec 1, 2006 11:59 AM EST reply actions

I think it’s pretty clear now that he’s not coming… but I know for a FACT that both he and Saban contacted UofA representatives (this is coming from inside SC, not Bama) to say they were interested in the job BEFORE Shula was fired.

I don’t know if they just changed their minds, or if Spurrier’s family convinced him… or if they just decided they wanted to get Mikey fired… but it’s going to make for a great book in a couple of years.

by RedTide on Dec 1, 2006 12:01 PM EST reply actions

Red, that’s simply not true. Nice try. You Bammers are a bunch of psychopaths.

by Stephen Orr Spurrier on Dec 1, 2006 12:05 PM EST reply actions

The fact that they contacted UA is absolutely true… whether they were really interested or not… may never know

by RedTide on Dec 1, 2006 12:18 PM EST reply actions

Red,
They probably contacted Bama because recent Bama coaching searches has meant BIG raises for coaches across the country.

by Mike on Dec 1, 2006 12:39 PM EST reply actions

Yeah, that was kind of my thought… since Sexton represents both… may have even been his idea

by RedTide on Dec 1, 2006 12:40 PM EST reply actions

Yea, I am sure SOS is worried about how much money he is making. The guy is still getting paid by uf and the skins.

by King Harvest on Dec 1, 2006 1:09 PM EST reply actions

Well then, you explain it… I have it from multiple people in the SC Ath Dept who work with SOS on a day to day basis. And they were very afraid at the begining of the week that he was gone, but they’re certain after yesterday that he’s staying.

by RedTide on Dec 1, 2006 1:36 PM EST reply actions

Bubba,
It is a proven fact that “mary-jane” has decimated Herban’s defense. If I was Herban, and I am not, but if I was, I would have testified for making mota legal. I am sure herban has graphs and charts that show defensive stats with dope smokers and without dopesmokers.

Congressman would listen to that kinda logic

by cajun on Dec 1, 2006 2:23 PM EST reply actions

There are still some Bammers who swear that Spurrier is still going to take the job in Tuscaloosa because
a) they haven’t heard Spurrier himself say anything on camera about not taking the job,
b) Mal Moore hasn’t said anything on camera about Spurrier not taking the job, and
c) their bowl of Apha-bits spelled out ‘SOS’ this morning

Dellusional? Thy name is Tide nation.

I personally think Spurrier chickened out of really going after the Bama job since everyone knows Bill Belichick has said he wants to leave the Patriots for Alabama. I also heard if the Patriots won’t let him out of his contract, Jim Tressel has said he will give up the right to coach for a national title in order to accept the job in Tuscaloosa.

by Stephen on Dec 1, 2006 4:49 PM EST reply actions

I’m kinda surprised that there has been no mention of the quality of the coconuts in the Huey Lewis video. Also, I have it on good authority from a friend who has a buddy who was a roadie for the band that the News’ former lead guitarist is NOT taking the Alabama job.

by NeverSawMollyHatchet on Dec 1, 2006 10:38 PM EST reply actions

There are only four people at The University who actually know what’s going on with this search and none of them are talking. An attorney for The University met briefly with SOS at the Tampa airport on Thursday. Later that evening Spurrier met with his team and alledgedly said “you are stuck with me” or something to that effect. I’ll believe it is all over when DV actually says it is in a public forum.

I’d love to have the boy at Bama but I don’t think he is coming. I also don’t believe that either Saban or Spurrier is the PRIMARY focus of the coaching search.

Call me Stoopid.
