JOHN L. SMITH, AKA [NAME ALSO REDACTED] TO BE REDACTED?
Johnelle: gone?
Immediate suspects:
1. Steve Mariucci
2. Steve Mariucci
3. Steve Mariucci
And now: John L. slapping himself. Can’t get enough of that…

Goodbye, slappy?
NOTE: Michigan State following the latest rage in coach management: the midseason firing, a la the original [NAME REDACTED] at Florida and John Bunting’s “agreement” to step down at North Carolina. (You have to love how “suspicious” things look when you “put” them in “quotation” “marks.”) Jeremy Foley is such the trendsetter. In fact, he’s gone back to wearing ever so slight a pleat in his pants–expect everyone to be doing the same in a few months.
UPDATE: Watch the live agony here. Warning: may contain autoslapping.

Yeah, ole Bobby Williams fell victim to the old “HBC curse”…..you beat Spurrier: eventually you will fail and be fired…..

Dear Jesus,
I know you seldom pay any heed to college football, particularly to my prayers concerning it. But I think your servant, Ty Willingham, would be a great fit in East Lansing. He went there for college, and he’s such a nice man. He’s 2-1 against Michigan in his career, and Michigan State is undefeated in South Bend in games he’s involved in. He’s also got a real thing for the color green. Anyway, I just thought I’d mention it.
Love,
Every Notre Dame Fan Ever, but mostly Your Mother

Last year UM was 5-3 in Big 10 play, 2004 OSU was 4-4 (same as MSU that year), etc.- point being that just because UM and OSU are the class of the Big 10 this year doesn’t mean that the rest of the conference should give up- hell, we’re in an age where Louisville is being mentioned in MNC discussions, I certainly think MSU can be kept around for Big 10 discussions.

Why is the Michigan State job such a big deal if they’re almost guaranteed to be a middle of the pack team as long as OSU and Michigan compete at a competent level?

Foley is a trendsetter?
This is the second mid-season firing by Ron Mason during his tenure as MSU AD. He also fired Bobby Williams in October, ‘02.
