BLOGPOLL WEEK 10: USC BE DAMMED.

And just when you thought we'd run out of atrocious Beaver puns. In the edit, the Trojans take a slide further down the polls for losing to Oregon State, we dare to bump Florida despite the dire karmic retribution that could result, and Georgia Tech's overvaluation gets corrected somewhat.

Why do you guys hate Florida so much?

Also, Wisconsin looks a little high…

And, if Clemson is 7-2 and just PASTED 6-2 Ga Tech 2 weeks ago I can’t see them behind GT…

And Boise St is too low…didn’t they wax the same Beaver team that just beat USC? They also beat Hawaii, a very good team….

where’s bama?!?!?!? bama’s 3 losses were totally close. we gave away the arkansas game w/ 3 missed kicks, lead Tenn until 3 mins left, and were trailing Fla by 3 w/ 4 minutes left.

i’m only being half serious here, it’s true bama played well enough to win the Tenn and Ark games, but being a “good 3 loss team” is meaningless. even if those 3 teams are all top 15 and two of the games should have been won. I’ll be happy if bama can get three more wins this year, (miss st., aubie, bowl game)

also, yes clemson looked bad last thursday, but i think they were overvalued anyways, so the drastic fall is called for, and the GT situation should be resolved by dropping them down too. Tejas A&M sucks and should be out, and bama in their slot…….(sob)

Why does having Texas at #3 seem odd to me? Yes, they’ve continued to win but they’ve looked very beatable lately.

Maybe in some other year for TAMU, but not this year.

IU’s coach Terry Hoeppner deserves it. His team is 5-4 and about to become bowl eligible (that’s impressive for Indiana), and that’s with him coaching through two bouts of cancer.

Sadly, I can’t complain too much about the Tigers’ tumble ten spots down the poll due to the shellacking last week, but I’d say we oughta be above GT.

as impossible as this would have sounded to me earlier…I’m contemplating some COY props for Nutt—-assuming we don’t go 1-3 down the stretch that is

Hate to double-comment, but just noticed. GT and Clemson both lost close games to Catholics at the beginning of the season, they both got waxed in away, in-conference games in hostile environments, both have 2 losses, but Tech is 14 and Clemson 18? I’m calling bullshit on that one.

by Chili on Nov 1, 2006 12:09 PM EST reply actions

I just don’t see how Texas can be #3 and Notre Dame can be #11. They have the same resume—early blowout loss to a top 2 team, struggled recently with mediocre competition (UCLA/Texas Tech), with really just one quality win (Oklahoma/Georgia Tech.)

You can split hairs—Texas’s schedule is weaker overall, but Nebraska may have been a better win the ND’s second best win, ND struggled with Michigan State but didn’t play Sam Houston State, Texas beat Oklahoma convincingly but Georgia Tech’s a better team and was playing at home—all day. But no way is one team #3 and the other #11. More like one’s #8 and one’s #9.

Similarly, Cal’s resume isn’t really more impressive than ND’s or Texas’s. I’d put those three and USC around the same level, all behind Florida, Tennessee, and Auburn.

by captaineclectic on Nov 1, 2006 12:26 PM EST reply actions

Texas doesn’t even make a top 10 based on Sagarin SOS and Top10/Top30 quality wins:

1. Ohio State (23) 1/0
2. Michigan (16) 0/3
3. Florida (8) 1/4
4. Tennessee (15) 1/1
5. California (2) 0/4
6. USC (1) 0/3
7. Notre Dame(13) 0/2
8. Arkansas (98) 1/1
9. Auburn (26) 1/0
10. Boston College (41) 0/3
11.Texas (48) 0/1

Dire karmic retribution = Vanderbilt victory this weekend?

If that happens, I will make sure to attribute it all to you!

I’m getting dizzy trying to arrange all these 1-loss teams. We need a daring junta to cancel the polls, declare the results null and void, and seize the national championship once and for all.

Tom O’Brien, the MARINE, I’m looking your way….

Texas was kicking a FG to make it a 1 score game in the 4th quarter against Ohio State. Only down by 7 at the half. Texas rushed for 150+ and pretty much matched OSU for yardage. No execution, no clutch plays.

Notre Dame was down 2 TD’s by the time the 1st quarter ended.

Huge diff between those two.

Congratulations on winning the ‘MGo Blogpoll Straight Bangin’ Award’ for keeping the Gators where we probably belong. I have no doubt that one of our last three games (West Kakalacky doesn’t count) will result in us embarassing ourselves on national television.

That said, anyone know a good sports bar in Nashville for after the Vandy game? Me and a buddy are going to make the 9 hour drive, so that we can say we didn’t miss a single game this season.

by Yant on Nov 1, 2006 2:53 PM EST reply actions

Huge difference all right.

Last time ND played tOSU they DID make it a one score game at 5:42 of the 4th quarter.

by canuck on Nov 1, 2006 3:15 PM EST reply actions

…In other words tOSU smacked ND and Texas. With Texas’s quality wins I can see why you focus on losses. If ND or Cal beat U$C they both belong ahead of Texas in spite of their awful games to tOSU and Tennessee.

by canuck on Nov 1, 2006 3:26 PM EST reply actions

Yant,

Sam’s Sports Bar is near campus in Hillsboro Village and is normally full of fans on gamedays. Downtown, Bailey’s has dozens of TVs and a larger food menu.

by James on Nov 1, 2006 3:54 PM EST reply actions

I don’t understand the continued infatuation with Texas. Everyone is aware that Vince Young is not on that team anymore, right? Texas has looked very mediocre to me from what I’ve seen.

Maybe all of the one loss wonders should be listed in a tie for 10th and spots 3-9 can be left blank.

by Harpua on Nov 1, 2006 4:13 PM EST reply actions

Colt McCoy. If that isn’t the name for a Texas quarterback that is gonna kick ass I don’t know what is.

by beatAuburn on Nov 1, 2006 4:23 PM EST reply actions

USC should not be behind Aubie. If the 2 teams played USC would ass-rape the tigers to a proportion only seen in our finest federal penitentiaries. Also Auburn got beat bad at home by a team that didn’t have a single pass attempt in the 2nd half, while USC was a 2pt. conversion away from tying despite being -4 in the TO margin on the road.

Thanks James, I have a feeling I’m not going to want to miss this LSU/UT game.

by Yant on Nov 1, 2006 5:06 PM EST reply actions

This the second time in a couple of days that a domer has brought up the Fiesta Bowl last year.

That’s bogus. tOSU outplayed ND solidly through out the game. When I watched the game I never felt like ND was a threat to win, and it was only because they got a few breaks that the score wasn’t totally out of hand. That wasn’t a close game at all.

I swear the domers try to get more milage out of games they LOSE, than other teams do out of games they win. Of course in this case the domers don’t actually have any quality wins under Weis (unless you want to cite Georgia Tech, but they might not be ranked by the end of the season).

The EDSBS is a fickle lover. One week LSU drops out of the poll completely, then they take a week off and now they’re back in the pudding baby!

by LSUfan on Nov 1, 2006 5:52 PM EST reply actions

What I don’t get is a Longhorn bringing up a game from last year to show how Texas deserves to be ahead of Notre Dame this year. If we go by last year’s results, Texas is ahead of OSU and Notre Dame’s ahead of Michigan. But that would be moronic.

by captaineclectic on Nov 1, 2006 6:54 PM EST reply actions

As far as Texas goes, they could be anywhere from 3rd to 10th on anybody’s poll and nobody should complain. They’re good, but the secondary has had a rough year to say the least. When in doubt, look to the defense, or lack there of. It was poor execution in the red zone and the inability to get big plays that doomed us against tOSU. Stats wise, that game was relatively even (yes, I know the scoreboard is the only thing that matters).

Now, ND fans thinking that football team could beat Texas, absolutely ludacrious. I’m hoping Boise State gets beat so I can see the UT-ND bloodbath in the Fiesta Bowl. That defense is as bad or worse than ours.

by drewshorns on Nov 2, 2006 8:03 AM EST reply actions

Yant, I’ll probably be out at one of the bars for both the football going on, and the Breeders Cup Championships. It’s going to be a crazy Saturday afternoon! For once, I’m happy to have an 11:30 kickoff.

by James on Nov 2, 2006 11:52 AM EST reply actions

ND-Texas is entirely moot as it won’t happen this year. The Sugar Bowl picks before the Fiesta unless Texas is in the title game, so an 11-1 ND would play an SEC team (this yankee writer has no insight as to which).

That said, it would be a shootout. ND could, I’m sure, throw the ball on Texas. But a good showing by Colt McCoy would probably be enough to win. I think the Irish have a better shot against Auburn, Florida, or Tennessee.
