Good Game, Ugly fuckin jerseys.

I like the helmets. Jerseys looked like generic advertisment jerseys, like in the old days when Schenider drank a “Beer” brand beer.

Yeah, that was quite a beating. You guys got your asses beat up and down the field until Bama got a little desperate and gave the game away. Doesn’t even compare to the skullcrushing you guys took in Tuscaloosa last year.
By the way, does UF have an exclusive deal with the SEC under which they can’t be called for delay of game? Three times today the playclock sat at zero before the snap without a flag. And nice work by the crew (replay official included) on the opening drive of the game, taking away a clear first down, without so much as a review.
That all said, Bama’s got some problems (LB being a major one).

I’m not sure ‘Bama fans can complain about officiating considering the Field Goal double standard that worked completely in the Tide’s favor

3 Questions:
1) Is Percy going to be ok for LSU?
2) Has anyone heard about Marcus Thomas’s appeal (I’ve read some Message board stuff about him coming back for LSU but I don’t know if thats solid)?
3)On what planet can an Offense which fails to score a Touchdown be siad to be dominate?

I have a feeling that Orson’s mancrush on Reggie Nelson may have just hit a new height. He probably had to change his shorts after the interception.
Coach Meyer impresses me more and more every week. HIs ability to learn and adjust in both the short term and the long term is really first rate. The Gators are much better than last year and they’ve really bought into his way of doing things. And I thought that Florida’s offense made some nice adjustments after a dismal first quarter and most of the second quarter. I’m really happy he’s our coach.
by baconboy on Sep 30, 2006 11:34 PM EDT reply actions
The one thing I don’t understand is why Florida would want to do throwback jerseys. Why recall an era of suck? On second thought, that may have explained UF’s first half.
And JPW did his best Erik Ainge impersonation but fell short there as well.

Pretty sad when Alabama’s unis look more traditional than Florida’s “throwback” unis from the 60’s. Ugliest jerseys I have ever seen in person. And Yes the rumors are true Florida fans LOVE JEAN SHORTS, LOVE them, I thought it was a stupid stereotype but it is def. true. And I also want to thank the 2 300 pound gator fans that actually pushed me 2 seats down by the end of the game.

Nice game today Gators. This site has the best humor I have read in a long while. I’m always amazed at how much you guys in the SEC hate each other. I mean, we have our thing with the land thieves (see bob poops) but you guys are hard core. I mean does anyone like Auburn except Auburn?
Love the jorts
Love the Orgeron humor
Hate Arkansas…please make them bleed.

I believe that was the ‘era of suck’ that saw Spurrier win a Heisman, not to mention the heroics of Jack Younglbood – that is to say, the career of two of the four inductees into the Ring of Honor ceremony held right before the game.
And I’ve got to admire Rainmaker, talking smack like a grad of the U even after consecutive losses. Too bad their big non-conference bout with Duke next week will break the run, and prevent us from seeing what heights he can achieve with three consecutive losses…

as for chris’s allusion to holds that weren’t called, what an absolute joke. if Gilberry is missing the letters from the back of his jersey, i’ve got a pretty good idea where he can find them.
and what was the “field goal double standard?” oh, you mean the one that Hetland missed and the one that Christiansen made? please don’t pretend those two kicks were equally questionable—that’s absolutely absurd. hell, Hetland’s may have been good (although I thought it was pretty clear that at least half the ball was not inside the upright plane), but Christiansen’s was, without question, good.

What a nasty bunch of rednecks!!! Now the Hotel owners can burn the mattresses they slept on since the slime of Bama won’t come off.
Did anyone notice how many truely hick fans they have?
I think it must be requirement to be a Bama fan that you have to have an ugly mustache, be obnoxious, be married to a 250 lb bleach blonde dumbass of a woman, and to be missing several teeth. The smell of Bama fans will linger inside the Swamp for weeks.
And their Ramma Jamma song? I think it’s a tribute to their gay fantasies. Truely, Bama is the worst of the SEC and wish that they could be Auburn.

You know Bama fans are totally dillusional. You don’t beat them.
They either beat themselves or they give it to the other team.
They absolutely deserve to be mediocre.

To hell with Bama and all their fans.

2 of the 4 players in the ring of honor (which is only 2) is probably not an “era of suck” by Florida’s historical standards, but for teams in the historical top 20, it is an era of suck.
by NewAZTiger on Oct 1, 2006 7:41 AM EDT reply actions
Delays of game were missed, but BAMA’s TD came straight from poor officiating. On third down, the referees felt a need to suddenly stop play to explain the game of football to Shula. That totally disrupted the rhythm, resulting in the false start and subsequent fumble/TD as the 3rd down was no longer. There was a point latr in the game when he though he could run on the field and throw a tantrum to get play halted. That’s what timeouts are for (well, that and stupid challenges of clear TDs).
Texas Fan, lay off of Stoops. Although we can all agree that his team did not belong in the national championship a couple seasons back when Auburn (the school we all hate) was CLEARLY the best team in the nation, he did earn his first national Championship ring in Gainesville, and he and Steve Spurrier Jr. won their second together in Norman.

I thought there were an awful lot of Tide fans there for the game. A win is a win but that was not a beating.
The game was in question for three quarters.
Really enjoyed Gainesville for the first time, I’ve been to many games there but never really had a good time outside the game. Damn shame we don’t play more often. Nice collection of the females there in G’ville but if I see another jean skirt I may throw up.

Way to pull out the win, Gators. Even though your uni’s looked worse than Prothro’s leg after last years game.
Also, Urban: Yes, Leak had an amazing run to set up our first TD, but running the QB draw 4 times in a game, just with Leak, is completely unacceptable. I hear that Dallas Baker felow is a pretty good receiver, same with Cornelius. A couple deep throws down the field wouldnt be so bad, would they?

I couldn’t believe the “no calls” on blocks in the back by Alabama. Then on the replay the next morning I saw we got away with one on the Nelson TD return.
And now that we can’t leave the stands during halftime, and I actually watch the bands; I don’t know which was more disturbing: that our band completely sucked compared to Alabama’s or that we have a male flag twirler.

Hi.
I had no dog in this fight, so my mind did wander quite a bit while watching the fourth quarter…
The unis that the Gators wore…were they custom helmets, jerseys, and pants ordered for this game, or did they just order jerseys and pants and paint the usual helmets? If custom ordered, how much would something like that cost (figure at least 100 helmets), along with the custom jerseys and pants? I imagine it ain’t cheap, and for only one game….
I’m not being critical at all, so please don’t read anything into my asking. It would just seem like a lot of cash outlay for a one-game deal.
Congrats to the Gators, and condolences for Bama…..good luck with rest of your seasons….

it was custom ordered, and the game used helmets were all auctioned off at a fundraiser the night before. CBS says the fundraiser raised about 6 million all in all.

by Cruzer on Oct 2, 2006 12:01 PM EDT reply actions
JGB, I can’t answer all of your questions, but I did hear (I think on the SunTV pre-game show) that the helmets were special orders, and that they are going to be given to certain boosters after the game. There was a major fundrasing gala the night before the Bama game (raised $6.1M), and the 1966-style helmets were going to those folks who bought tables (100 tables at $50K per). [I may have any number of details wrong here but I think I’m close.]
That was a game to remember.
by Panhandler on Oct 2, 2006 12:02 PM EDT reply actions
JGB,
The helmets were just for this game only, throwbacks to the 60’s. They were auctioned off at the 100 year celebration booster event the night before. I think the gala raised like 6.1 million and while I’m sure the helmets didn’t raise a large percentage of that total I’d guess they more then paid for themselves.
by tb on Oct 2, 2006 12:07 PM EDT reply actions
Thanks for the info….I didn’t catch CBS’ s info about the fundraiser…I was switching around between 3-4 games quite a bit, so much of the TV commentary didn’t really register…..
Just to reiterate, my question was not a criticism, just more of a “what would all this cost and is it worth it?” kinda thing. If UF was able to use them to raise all that scratch, then it could safely be deduced that it was worth the effort.
Again, good luck on both your seasons….

i find it comical that bama fans take consolation in the fact that they beat us worse last year than we beat them this year. typical of them to always be living in the past. i guess they will always have the nostalgia of that 2005 win and their “magical” 10-2 season which, by their math, brought them their 13th national championship.

I agree 100% about your Atlanta comment for ’ 06 but not ‘07 or ’08 or ’09. SEC rules!!!!! however, UF (if you didn’t notice) plays 10-14 freshman each game – RIGHT NOW THIS YEAR – in crunch time!! unbelieveable!!. Let’s see, that means the core of the team will be sophomores next year……………..

Young talent on both O and D lines, two very good, but not great, junior wideouts, soph QB and the possibility of Prothro coming back next year.

not trying to be homer here – but my god – if you sit in the stands in person and watch what these UF freshmen are doing with literally months of college under their belts. not talking about a line – for as much is made about lines – and yes you need a solid line – its the skill positions after the lines cancel each other out.
tellin you – you heard it hear first – just watch UF skill positions for the next 2-4 years…
worthless factoid – coached a lot of years myself at many levels……linemen can hurt you if they are subpar – but at the mediocre level they are just fluff in the marshmallow.. good luck with your great linemen making TDs for you.. no disrespect – just experienced opinion…….we’ll have to see – that’s what makes it fun!
