FOOTBALL CHRISTMAS: GIFTS 61-70
70. Miller High Life. We really only drink this glorified mare’s urine in the fall, but some alchemy in the season combined with the whiff of nostalgia makes the otherwise substandard brew a choice beverage for any tailgate. Helps in humid sweatbox environments that little, if any alchohol is actually contained within.

The champagne of beers.
69. Breakfast with Gameday. Even Big and Rich couldn’t ruin this one for us.
68. The flea-flicker.
67. The reverse flea-flicker.
66. Fake punts: subtype: awesome
65. The reverse
64. The double reverse.
63. The double reverse pass to the qb (unless called against Michigan in bowl game.)
62. The hook ‘n ladder.
61. Fake punts: subtype: galling failures.

Galling failures rule, as does the champagne.

I have never actually seen a double reverse and am not convinced one has ever been used. Typically the anouncers will dub an end around reverse as a double reverse… when one more hand off is actually required to make it a true double reverse. Pet Peave.

That fucking play to Vernell Brown in the Outback Bowl was a double reverse, dammit.

I haven’t been able to find it, but somewhere, there’s gotta be a youtube of the fake punt by Vandy against Bammer(I think) in ‘96- only time I’ve ever seen a fake punt where the punter took the ball and ran with it. Even better that it was out of his own end-zone (or close, anyway) and went for a TD.

You need a utube of the fake punt of SCar at UF in 2000 when we were down 21-0 and our punter took off for 30 yards or so to start the second quarter comeback. Perhaps the Lito touchdown return right before the half will come in your top 10.

It might only be because Nate Vasher played for my team while I was in college, or it might be because his nickname was ESPN 3………but that clip always makes me goo my pants

Hmm, how come we didn’t see any of those screen pass/flea flicker plays at UF last year? Come on Urban. Don’t you know Gators love gunslingers?

italiangator says:
Yeah, nobody does a double reverse for the very fact that by the time it develops, it’s screwed; not only is it too slow, the defense winds up being out of position which magically gets turned back to being…..anybody? That’s right! They’re in position! It’s a damn good thing that game meant nothing other than the cold blackness I felt in my heart, because if there was something real on the line, I’d be a bit pissed about it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. High Life is NOT urine-like, it is a fantastic American beer that any man should be damn proud to drink. Look to those folks in Missouri to bottle and sell piss … not us Wisconsinites. WE give you the High Life.
Also, Coors Light is the ultimate breakfast beer, as everyone knows. It has about a third the body of High Life Light.

Another galling failure could be the limpwristed attempt of a fake punt by Britton Colquitt at UF last year. Doesn’t come close to that hit in the Texas clip though, that shit hurts just to watch!

“Flea Flicker off the screen”?
Those guys are idiots. It was just a screen with a lateral. It would have been a flea flicker if the recepter of the lateral then attempted a pass, but that would have been illeagal after a forward pass has already been made.

Say what you want about Verne Lundquist, but he renders moot semantical arguments about trick plays simply by referring to them as “dipsy doodles” – much easier than getting all technical.

Spurrier used to sport the sweater-vest too? Were those things “cool” back in ‘92 or something? Did the Ole’ Ball Coach eventually grow up, while THE McSweater-Vest remains 14 years in the past?

We actually ran a true double reverse (three hand-offs) against Wisconsin a few years back wih David Terrell. I remember watching it and thinking, “What the hell are we doing?!” because it seemed to take forever before we actually turned upfield. Then it went for a big gain, so I was ok with it.
I haven’t seen it since, though I keep hoping Lloyd will bust it out again some day. It was a thing of beauty.
