This rule isn’t about defensive coaches, or coaches at all. This rule is about the NCAA trying to sell its product to an audience of uneducated, ADD-generation idiots…while at the same time keeping the same amount of commercials so as not to piss off the audience. If they wanted to do the right thing, they could shorten the game by leaving all the rules exactly as they are, and just having fewer commercial breaks.

Why do you have to have a TD followed by a commercial, and then a kickoff followed by a commercial. Stupid!

Richt went off on the rule last night at the ATL dawg meeting.

Said, (paraphrase)

“you’ve got 3 coaches on the rule committee that are old school defense guys that shoved this rule on everyone because their dream game is 7-6. If the rule is abused, it will bore the fans to death, and it will be awkward to watch. I think it’s a terrible rule, bad for college football, and I think it lasts one year before it gets thrown out. ”

He said if both teams wanted to use the rule to its fullest to slow the game down, you’ve chop 8 minutes of action out of a 60 minute game.

it’s a crap rule.
