EX-NAVY QUARTERBACK ACQUITTED

Lamar Owens Jr., former Navy quarterback on trial for raping a female student, was acquitted on Friday. Owens was convicted of the lesser charge of conduct unbecoming an officer (which itself could have carried a two year sentence) but the military jury recommended no punishment.

Gotta love the military justice system. A guy admits to having sex with a woman while she’s passed out, and he gets conduct unbecoming with no jail time. The JAG school clearly needs to work on its prosecution classes.

All of ‘em. Lamar’s been their only arrest, as far as we can remember.

there has to be a way to deal with military reprimands etc. otherwise how can we translate civilian crimes and military ones in regards to the fulmer cup?

Conduct unbecoming is a big deal and a career killer in the Navy. He was found guilty but no punishment makes the outcome more like a suspended sentence.

I would be surprised if they did commission him.

They would get their 5 years back if they did commission him but with the conduct unbecoming charge he never get above the rank of LT. and he be shown the door at the end of his committment. Its a shame really.

The NAAA really helped him out on this one, but I don’t think the prosecution made a very good case. At least he won’t be made a scapegoat for the historical problems that have arisen in similar cases. This entire episode is such a shame, from all accounts he was/is a great kid who had a very promising future.
