NIKE GIVES GOOD AD

The soccer geek in us is still thrilled with all the Joga Bonito ads, but Nike's already blitzing into the college prep season with new ads featuring Urban Meyer and a slew of other football celebs, including Steve Young looking surprisingly comfortable in his role as paper boy.

And Matt Leinart? He's nobody.

I always knew that about Leinart. Best part of the ad = Urlacher’s bone-crushing WR-flattening midfield tackle. Ditka would be proud.

Watch it a few times: there’s detail upon detail layered into the ad.

1. Mike Vick’s old hondaish car with the rims that undoubtedly cost as much as the vehicle itself.

2.Deion’s awesome old man act.

3. That the kid appears to be living in the house from Friday.

4. The heavy reliance on Mike Vick’s Virginia accent to make everything sound cooler than it actually is.

Just saw this ad at the movies. Urlacher’s hit is even more impressive while watching from stadium seats and with THX quality sound. My question remains, is Shula directly speaking to the WR when he says that he hasn’t seen it yet and the WR says that he and Vick are gonna “do it?” The way it’s presented it seems that Shula’s calling the kid out.

Just got back from a visit to Portland this weekend.

For what it’s worth, a buddy of mine is an account exec at Weiden + Kennedy, the agency responsible for this spot. He told me that Urban was the coolest guy on the set and that he was really intelligent.

My buddy says he’s now rooting for Florida, and for Meyer.
