SPURRIER: COCKS LIMP IN SUMMER
The OBC's discovering the historical miasma surrounding all things South Carolina football is not a myth:
Weve got some lazy guys here that are not going to make it. Its just a matter of time before they fall by the wayside, Spurrier said Thursday during what he called a midsummer media briefing.
But that happens everywhere, and usually thats why they dont make it. They dont give any effort. They quit. They skip workouts, skip class.
Spurrier says that it's the worst attendance he's ever seen for an offseason program. Think he's starting to get a bit more empathy for Brad Scott now? Somewhere, Danny Ford is nodding his head in recognition.

Yo, Steve. Wassup. Think I left a bottle 'a scotch in a file cabinet in the tape room if ya need it.

Worst ever—and this is coming from a guy who coached at Duke. True, the Blue Devils were many, many standard deviations better then than they are now, but still, one has to think that a Challenge To Manhood involving the words “Duke” “pansies” [or some other word that begins with “p”] “bigger” and “than” would be effective.
/has faith that SOS will figure it out

USC the east coast version will never be more than the 6-6, 7-5 team that they’ve always been. I don’t care if Vince Lombardi was reborn via dinosour DNA it’s just never going to be anything more than that.

Even as a SC alum, I still always appreciate a good dick joke regarding our team.
This is just OBC being OBC. Despite our “success” last year, he still has a lot of tearing down to do in an attempt to build up to consistantly compete in the SEC.
Auburn fan – while I don’t think the Gamecocks are on the cusp of national prominence, I do think we can win the SEC East soon. With Phat Phil phailing, and Florida’s players getting jailed on a semi-regular basis (Sorry, O) we are catching up in talent. If we can beat Georgia early, it could set up a nice run. Granted, it’s not much, but us Cocks have to start somewhere.

First, you don’t need to refer to USC the east coast version. USC implies South Carolina. If you need to specify, it’s best to use USC the one founded in 1801! You gove the Shamecocks too much credit by calling them “the 6-6, 7-5 team that theyve always been”. Cock-a-doodle-Lou went 0-11, extending Brad Scott’s 10 game losing streak to the longest in the nation. Lest I reveal myself as a Cubs fan or something worse, I have to believe it’s going to be different. The Cocks are up and coming!

Hey barefeet:
To the other 250+ million Americans, USC implies Southern Cal.
And besides, So Cal was “USC” before you guys in Klumbya were “USC”, they’ve got you by some 30 years or so.

Dondrial,
Your comment to Coach Scott was hysterical. That is all.

anyone care to check the tallahasee police blotters for Kenny O’Neal. Surely he did something pretty awful to get kicked of off FSU’s team:

Steve Spurrier coaching a team called “the Cocks” really is the gift that just keeps on giving.
I’ve never been able to figure out why Carolina isn’t a stronger program. They’ve got solid facilities and fan support that ought to leave everybody else in the conference speechless (if any of the top 6 teams went 1-21, you’d be able to land cargo jets in the stands of their stadia—while SC’s attendance went UP). Maybe it’s the recruiting base, is South Carolina like Tennessee, where there just isn’t enough 1-A talent to depend on? (That’s not a slam, I genuinely don’t know.)
Still, given the history, I doubt they’ll make a serious move to the top of the East. That much mediocrity is hard to overcome—but then again, if Tennessee and Florida continue to tank, somebody is going to take their places…

Here’s the crazy part, USC would’ve been playing LSU in the SEC title game had their kicker not botched the extra point and late field goal attempts in Athens which would’ve beaten UGA. Seeing that, I’d say it’s not a huge stretch to assume they’ll win an East title in the near future.

Couldn’t have happened to a bigger jerk of a coach (well maybe, Dennis Erickson, but let’s let him get The Vandals up and running first).

Part of SC’s problem is geography… a lot of in-state talent gets gobbled up by programs in nearby Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina, after that the pickings are a little slim. Spurrier’s ability to recruit nationwide should come in handy and help offset that, particularly if the program can start building some success against the traditional SEC schools. The jury is still out on whether that’ll happen – not a lot to work with at present.

SC’s facilities are some of the worst in the Southeast. The program can barely afford to keep their lights on.
And their upgraded weight room and locker room are still rock bottom.

C’mon — USC was founded in 1801, and California wasn’t even a state until the 1850s. Due historical respek.
But there’s nothing good about El Scott. Not to say former Carolina coaches can’t have a bright future (I’m looking at you and your stacked backfield, Sparky Woods), but my dad and I got tickets to the ‘98 USC-Miss. State game. So we get to our seats, and MSU returns the kickoff for a touchdown. I turn to my dad and say, "We’re leaving at halftime." And we did. And it was the best decision made in Williams-Brice all day.

So you got around 50 years worth of a headstart, and you still haven’t made enough noise to be “the” USC?
Earn your respek, champ.
