FRIDAY YOUTUBE EXTRAVAGANZA
Extravaganza=2 videos instead of the usual one. First, we have Virginia Tech fans reinventing the wheel by doing their own "management retreat" in the stands during a blowout, complete with a new iteration of "the trust fall."
Then, to balance the silliness, a reminder why Brett Favre earned that high draft pick.
Enjoy the weekend, and if you're not soccerphobic please do stop by Dodgy At Best, our home away from home for the next month of World Cup bliss.

Nice video of Favre. 65 yards in the air after avoiding the pressure. Shoddy stiffarm (tsk tsk) but hell… he’s playing football and I’m not.

I think the amazing thing is that these fans appear to be sitting at least a mile above the field

God, Tech fans are stupid. Though, given how high in the nosebleeds at Lane Stadium they were, I give them credit for throwing down the stairs rather than up. Would have been a shame for the thrown fan to cause a domino effect sending them all over the railing. Actually, no, it would have been awesome.

Hey Orson,
How about footage of Jason Witten (TE) dusting the entire Michigan defense in the ciTrUs bowl a few years ago. I mean, we all hate Michigan right?

Jesus those seats are high up. that angel down to the field is almost as bad as the upper deck at yankee stadium. yikes.
PS Brett Fav-ruh is awesome.

I think that was a Navy Seal doing a HALO jump but he got caught right as he exited the plane.

Didn’t So. Miss finish 5-6 that year? How the hell do you go from beating an FSU team that would go 10-2 (dominate the ACC and win the Fiesta Bowl) to having a losing season?

In all fairness, those seats at the top aren’t quite as bad as it seems in the camera.
Plus, everyone wonders how Lane sounds so loud with only 66,000 people and that’s how: you basically just build walls that go damn near straight up.

Last year I sat a few rows down from where that guy was landing. Usually after a Tech score, he’d jump down. Sometimes he’d do flips. That guy is crazy… I usually just watched to see if he’d end up injuring himself.
The angle of Lane is very steep, but it makes you feel like you’re on top of the field. I actually enjoy the view, you can see everything going on as the play develops.

That video of the VT fans in the nosebleed seats (A.K.A. " Hokie Heaven") brought back memories. It’s amazing what folks will do after too many Jack and Cokes! Good stuff!!!

Favre pass is described as “tipped” in the call, and you can’t see it on this, but it bounced off the helmet of the other receiver. And Favre said later he was throwing to Tillman, the one who caught in. In other words, he missed. Sure there’s the evasion and the arm, but just like (or more than) Flutie’s pass, I’ve never quite understood why the quarterback gets the credit in these situations.

OT: Can someone tell me how Tom Zbi-something Polish can get 25k and fight in MSG (something which considering his qualifications is obvioulsy attributable to his football celebrity) while Jeremy Bloom can’t collect the endorsements necessary to compete (not to turn a profit per say) in a sport in which he was one of the the top 5 in the world, cause it would violate NCAA regulations on earning money from ones “football celebrity”? Because to me at least this makes no sense.

Socratic:
Because Zbikowski isn’t getting endorsements—he’s getting paid to fight. It’s the same thing with kids who play baseball during the summer in the minor leagues—as long as they don’t get endorsement money, it’s okay. The problem for Bloom was that the only way to make any money in skiing is through endorsements—you don’t get a paycheck. The NCAA’s big issue is athletes getting any money based off their college football activities. Zbikowski isn’t—it’s strictly for the boxing. He doesn’t get a cut of the PPV take, so even when they hyped it up with his ND connections, it didn’t materially benefit HIM. The reason Bloom couldn’t get any cash is the same reason Drew Tate didn’t get to keep his hole-in-one money from the celebrity tournament he was in; he was in it because he’s a college QB, so any money received violates NCAA rules.
It’s assinine and stupid, but that’s the difference.

I have been to a couple of games at Clemson, and their upper deck is the steepest I have ever seen. Makes the upper deck at the Georgia Dome look like an OSHA-approved handicap ramp. Looks like Lane might even be more insane.

What about the Iowa kid who won hit a hole-in-one at a pro-am and had to give the money back because of the NCAA? No endorsements there……
