YIKES.
New Mexico State rescinds a scholarship offer to WR Cornell Burbage II following his arrest for the alleged rape and sodomy of a 13 year old girl. Holy hell-- that is not, not right.

What is not right? Taking the scholly or the chic thing? At Nebraska it would be a total toss-up.

The alleged crime, brain, not the revocation.

Dammit, somebody made a Marcus Vick joke before I could. I used to be the king of those! I used to be big!
Aaaah, I’m still big — it’s the Marcus Vick jokes that got small.

Perhaps after he spends some quality time with his face on the cell floor he’ll learn (the hard way) that rape is bad.

Careful, Orson. You’re double “nots” are perilously close to canceling each other out via the double negative.

Not relevant to the discussion, but I had to share this: Bear Eats Monkey in front of Zoo Patrons.

R. Kelly is not a role model Cornell. At least not until you get onto a football team.

Is it me, or does Cornell Burbage II sound like some sort of man-on-man gay porn film?
Dear God, I can’t believe I wrote that. I need serious help.

Was a rainbow wig found at the scene of the crime? Cause, that at least would be snicker inducing.

What an unbearable experience for the macaque. One hopes that the other bears don’t ape the killer. The zookeepers plainly decided not to monkey around by moving the other macaques.

Appaw-ling, DC Trojan. We can’t believe you’d make fun of such a grizzly situation.
by Orson Swindle on May 16, 2006 3:13 PM EDT reply actions
I know that it’s a polar-izing situation, and I should’t be making ursin(e)-ine puns about it, lest I be accused of panda-ing to the crowd. But I can’t help myself; it’s oso tempting.
[I know all of these suck but I spent exactly 27 seconds finding the infoplease article; couldn’t let that time go to waste.]

I am not an attorney so somebody, please, enlighten me. Did this guy only get 2nd degree rape because it was consensual?

How are recruits with scholarships not included in Fulmer Cup points but former players who have expended their eligibility elligible?
by NavyGrad on May 16, 2006 4:35 PM EDT reply actions
I second what NavyGrad has said and have brought it up before. If New Mexico isn’t getting points for anything lamar Owens should be taken off the list because his eligibility had already ended.
by Adam on May 16, 2006 7:11 PM EDT reply actions
My suggestion is to quit lawyering the Fulmer cup points. Navy can have that one blemish…uhhh and the whole tailhook thing…and I guess that law and order episode where the chick pilot kills her boyfriend…and I think there was a Costner movie…no way out or something.

@tzubear: I didn’t see anything that indicated it was consensual. I don’t think a 13 year old could consent in any event. It varies from state to state and I don’t know New Mexico, but I’m guessing it’s not second degree because he didn’t use a weapon or there was no great bodily harm (well aside from the rape).

RRP-
Exactly, it is statutory rape even if he didnt force himself on her. I cant imagine she was down with sodomy?! So, if he did force himself on her, I am confused what he would have had to do for 1st degree rape. I suppose the bodily harm angle is the reason, but it seems this would just add an assault/battery charge on top of rape.
by tzubear on May 17, 2006 12:52 AM EDT reply actions
tzubear: I just looked up the statutes in New Mexico (well a summary of them) linked in my name. It’s the great bodily harm that is the distinction, or if the victim is under 13. I guess this all presumes that this took place in New Mexico, which is not clear from the article.

This all went down in Kentucky, actually, not New Mexico. Insert Kentucky quip here.

I like tasteless jokes as much, if not more , than the next guy. However, when it comes to refering to a SPECIFIC victom, I would caution against posting anything of the sort on the web. There is a very small chance (no offense orson and stranko)someone who knows this girl can read this.
by tzubear on May 18, 2006 9:59 AM EDT reply actions
Oh, yeah. Thus the brevity of the post and the insistence that this is so the opposite of good for anyone.
by Orson Swindle on May 18, 2006 10:04 AM EDT reply actions
was refering to the ‘small chance anyone would read it (at this blog)’. Reporting on the event is not in bad taste.
