SEAHAWKS, AGGIES SETTLE DISPUTE
Texas A&M, which claims to have invented college football, the forward pass, tailgating, football stadiums and fan support, has settled its dispute with the Seattle Seahawks over their use of the term 12th man for the last several decades. Terms of the settlement are not yet fully disclosed but you can expect that A&M will receive some cash along with, and this is true, an agreement that a statement that the 12th Man is a trademark of Texas A&M University will be included on broadcasts that feature reference to Seattle fans as the 12th man.

Seattle's 12th man, brought to you by Texas A&M.

Gentlemen
I think you’ll find the term 12th man has its origins in the grand old game of cricket, the rules of which were codified at around the time your quaint little republic was founded, don’t you know.
Just make the cheque out to ‘Marylebone Cricket Club’; there’s a good chap.

Texas A&M also presented this gift to the city of Seattle in commiseration of their superbowl loss.

Fascinating, Phil. Our readers are brilliant as usual.
Don’t hold your breath on the “cheque,” though.

Here’s my trenchant, exhaustively researched analysis: Texas A&M sucks donkey balls.
Don’t worry about a check; this one’s on the house.

do you think if the Seahawks built a big pirate ship and stormed College Station, that the Aggies would have given and ended this nonsense.

As ridiculously stupid and petty as this is, it doesn’t hold a candle to Pat Riley trademarking the term “Threepeat” for commercial use and charging royalties to anyone who uses it.

Don’t know who is the driving force behind this at A&M, whether it is the president, AD, some lawyer, or a myopic, overzealous idiot, but whomever it is, they and Pat Riley are both wankers.

One of our readers wrote this gem back in February, when the dispute first arose. Still kills me…

Aaarrrgghh! Build a big pirate ship and storm College Station? Someone been looking at TexTech’s spring practices?

Aggies Suit # 2:
Texas A&M will now sue Chris Berman for his illegal use of the, “You’re with me, Leather” pick-up line.
Those words have been uttered for decades in some of College Station’s (Texas A&M’s home) finest bars since the early 1920’s. Of course, these bars did not allow flappers (women).

damn aggies. “we’ve got tradition—the student section stands during games.” yeah, and those of us at other football-crazy schools do the same. therefore, not a unique tradition, but generalized fan experience.

Good point Dr. C.
I guess this also means that anyone attending a college or pro football game who makes out with their date after their team scores can expect to hear from A&M’s legal counsel.
No gathering in groups to yell either I suppose, or shooting off a cannon when your team scores.
At least no other school in America had the same idea as them to name themselves the Aggies…

This crap is going too far. Not to long ago Ohio University, tried to trake mark the name of the State of Ohio so Ohio State University couldn’t use it for Merchandise the O-H-I-O cheer, script Ohio etc! They tried to cite the fact that OU has been around longer as their estiblished date probably goes back to when OU was just a sign pole out in the frontier wilderness. The truth is that they’re just mad because no one outside of Ohio had ever mistaken Ohio State for being the Bobcats. Perhaps Texas A&M is suffering from a lack of attention too.
