One of my greatest CFB memories is of James Brown in a red leather jumpsuit with a big cowboy hat singing “Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs” as we put a pounding on the Aggies (Texas A&M variety) back in Herschel’s freshmen season.

This picture of Dooley and JB is even better than JB’s booking photo (the most recent one, I guess).

GeorgiaLina couldn’t be a better college football song than Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs. JB sat in with Paul Shaffer & the band on Letterman 2-3 years ago and I swear to you they played Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs during the commercial break.

James Brown even has lyrics about college football. Sort of.

In his epic tribute to the states of his birthplace and his residency, “Georgia-Lina”, he actually has the following lyrics:

The Bulldogs… and the Gamecocks
Tech… and Cle-hem-soooonnnnnn

While the backup singers coo “Georgia and Carolina”.

It’s pretty great. Saw him perform it at Music Midtown in 1994. Strangely, he needed a 10 minute introduction for the song, which is rather explicit in what it means in the lyrics themselves.
