GEORGIA TECH LOSES ANOTHER DB. CHARLIE WEIS LAUGHS, PETS FLUFFY WHITE CAT IN LAP.

Georgia Tech loses another player in a spot they cannot lose depth at: cornerback Jahi Word-Daniels (All-Name Team starter by default) has knee trouble and may be out for the season. Attention Notre Dame fans: your starter at one corner position for Tech in the game against the Irish could be converted wideout Pat Clark or incoming freshman Laurence Marius. Against Brady Quinn throwing, Jeff Samardkijadkugija catching, and Weis calling plays. Against Chan Gailey on the other sideline. (HT: Nathan.)

Don't stand up at work after reading this, as wandering around the office while pitching a tent is not cool--we just checked with your HR department, and that's sexual harassment, or at the very least just plain impolite. Unless you're single and well-hung, that is; in that instance, it's called "advertising."

Tech might need to borrow this to calculate Quinn's yardage if Tech's secondary loses any more people.

Ugh…why do you guys have to do this to me. I was hoping this one would slip under the radar…but here I refreshed the screen and there it is.

The only thing left for us Tech fans to do is pray Lee Corso picks us to win.

Since it has been established by a leading college-football expert that Notre Dame = C. Montgomery Burns, perhaps a better mental image would be, "Georgia Tech Loses Another DB; Charlie Weis Smiles Wickedly, Purrs, ‘Eeeeeexcellent.’ "

Just FYI, Georgia fans are probably gloating about this too, not that that should come as any surprise.

Nice Blofeld reference. Just the right touch of subtlety and evil, both understated, but lethal.

Hive insiders are reporting that it might not be as bad as the AJC is stating. I’m praying very hard for that since we still aren’t in position to put Kenny Scott plus 3 clones of Kenny Scott on the field.

That might be one of the funniest titles I’ve ever read. Damn my quiet office, I think I just alerted everyone that I’m not doing actual work.

Orson, I hope Tech is as forgetful of Rhema McKnight as you are. He led the team in receiving yards in both ‘03 and ’04 and by all accounts is completely healed from his mishap in Ann Arbor last year. Yes, the offense was a crappy Diedrick/Willingham co-production but it was the same offense for McKnight as it was for Samardzija and Stovall. Don’t tell anyone in Atlanta, though I’m fearful that the word may get out after a couple games this year.

Pssssst, definitely don’t send this photo to Chan Gailey:

This ND @ GT game is quickly turning into a contest decided by whether or not our badass front 7 can pummel Quinn before he shreds what’s left of our secondary.

There’s at least 4 future first day NFL draft picks in Tech’s front seven, and Darryl Richard is an absolute monster up the middle in particular (to go along with the two human homing missles Wheeler and Hall at LB). If Weis can get a protection scheme that slows them down though, it could be a long afternoon in Atlanta.

WE ARE ND! WE ARE ND! Can we just skip summer and go right to fall? Quinn is going to be crazy this year, I saw him a t practice the other day and he just has this presence on the field. Watch out world cause here we come.

by Jesse on Apr 21, 2006 11:38 AM EDT reply actions

I think you can look forward to a long afternoon in Atlanta. Charlie is pretty okay at gameplanning when he has a few months to prepare.

by AllWhoYonder on Apr 21, 2006 11:48 AM EDT reply actions

Blitzing C-Dub is ALWAYS a good strategy (he,he).
Just ask NFL D-Coordinators.

Can fall come quick enough???

by Dave on Apr 21, 2006 12:00 PM EDT reply actions

Nathan, I wouldn’t despair quite yet. It remains to be seen whether our secondary has recoverd from that little shredding given to them by Ginn and Holmes. Lots of good words coming out of spring practice and we’re all very hopeful but talk is cheap. The defense will also be breaking in two new linebackers that day. If things go south the story will be Calvin instead of Rhema and Jeff. But then again there’s this new guy Aldridge and rumors that Walker worked so hard in the offseason that his 40 time is faster than before…

I think you can look forward to a long afternoon in Atlanta. Charlie is pretty okay at gameplanning when he has a few months to prepare.

Tenuta is pretty okay at gameplanning when he has a few months to prepare as well (ask Auburn. Twice.)

I would imagine that ND will be seeing pressure packages in all sorts of inventive ways. It’s going to be a fun chess match to watch.

by Nathan on Apr 21, 2006 12:18 PM EDT reply actions

Nathan, I don’t disagree about Tenuta. But if the injury to Word-Daniels sits him for the year then Tenuta is starting the chess game with some pieces already lost. My concern is that every successfully picked up blitz could result in a ND touchdown since Kenny can’t cover everybody on their team.

by JacketDan on Apr 21, 2006 12:22 PM EDT reply actions

I think Jon Tenuta lives in my neighborhood in East Cobb. I’ll confirm and get right back to you.

So which team gets to blame it on the pleats?

by jonathantu on Apr 21, 2006 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

Our pass defense is offensive. Has been for a couple years now. But I have a plan. Break Brady Quinn’s legs on the opening drive. Also, if any Tech people want to go in on it with me, Im thinking of getting a dump truck full of juji-fruits delivered to Charlie Weis’ house. He oughta be lethargic and round by Sept. 2nd. He’ll need the fire department to get out of his house.

Rumor has it Jimmy Clausen is committing to ND tomorrow morning! Nothing substantiated here, just the internet rumormill and hopefull wishing.

by Lance Boil on Apr 21, 2006 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

Clausen will be announcing tomorrow at the College Footbal Hall of Fame in Soutn Bend. But rather than announcing for ND, he intends to forego his final four years of college eligiblity and be immediately enshrined in the college Hall. 8:30 tomorrow. South Bend time.

by Daniel on Apr 21, 2006 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

Daniel,

Is that before or after they give him his 3 Heisman’s? I also heard a rumor that as soon as Clausen declares, Jesus will be coming back to play wide out for Notre Dame. Even with his troubled past, he still has four years of eligibility left.

YOU know Charlie’s gameplanning did alot of good in that ass woopin in the bowl game.

Just an observation.

by CHARLIE MURPHEY on Apr 21, 2006 2:41 PM EDT reply actions

OSU was the better team and deserved to win but ‘ass woopin’? It was a seven point game with three minutes left and there was that touchdown that was called back. Even at that, is a 14 point win an ‘ass woopin’?

by Rick on Apr 21, 2006 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

I understand that Jesus guy is sort of injury-prone. Anyone know anything about this?

by Lance Boil on Apr 21, 2006 3:11 PM EDT reply actions

Don’t know about injuries Lance, but I have heard his pass catching ability criticized as if he had holes in hands

by SpecialK on Apr 21, 2006 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

it’s true, but he’s got quite an amazing recovery time.

by NDTom on Apr 21, 2006 3:33 PM EDT reply actions

Yea Lance that’s true. He’s a quick healer though. Once he got injured on a Friday and by Sunday he was back on the field. True story.

by Brian on Apr 21, 2006 3:35 PM EDT reply actions

Brian,
Do you really believe that? Or is that just a story that’s been handed down from generation generation? My sources tell me that he potentially has hands and feet problems, but he can really fly…. if you know what I mean.

by Lance Boil on Apr 21, 2006 3:47 PM EDT reply actions

I hear he has a tendency to get nailed on crossing patterns.

by Joe on Apr 21, 2006 3:49 PM EDT reply actions

just wait until tomorrow…

by bubba on Apr 21, 2006 3:58 PM EDT reply actions

Notre Dame declared Jesus inelligible. Apparently, he went boozing with a dozen or so pals and got arrested. Fulmer cup entry?

by Leo on Apr 21, 2006 4:07 PM EDT reply actions

Joe went and did it. He crossed the line we were all dancing on. Well done good sir. I heard he was involved in some escaladery though…Here

…Georgia Tech loses another DB. Charlie Weis laughs, grabs another frog and eats it….like Jabba the Hutt when he had Princess Leah on a chain…

Georgia Tech fans do not despair! Just whack ’em ND boys in the chops until they soften up.

Fine work on this thread to all, but Joe gets the purple ribbon.

by Orson Swindle on Apr 21, 2006 5:17 PM EDT reply actions

This is going to be Texas Tech-like; 500 yards is a distinct possibility.

by John on Apr 21, 2006 5:41 PM EDT reply actions

Joe (38), you are right about him getting nailed on the crossing route. But he’ll be great running the “Hail Mom.”

by Daniel on Apr 22, 2006 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

anyone see travis thomas burst down the sidelines, when a DB couldnt catch him. lookout he’ll start for the irish and be an all american!

by joe kelly on Apr 22, 2006 5:43 PM EDT reply actions

by the way thomas sped way for 83 yards

by joe kelly on Apr 22, 2006 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

Travis Thomas is not going to start for ND.

by Bill on Apr 23, 2006 9:55 AM EDT reply actions

So any over unde ron how may yards CJ goes for on the ND secondary, Im think 250+.

by Socraticsilence on Apr 23, 2006 5:55 PM EDT reply actions

Don’t y’all know I once coached the Dallas Cowboys? I deserve respect!

by Chan Gailey on Apr 23, 2006 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

Darius is still the starter at RB. When Weis keeps referring to Thomas as “a change of pace” that means he isn’t starting. Unless, we open the game in a two RB set out of the gun.

by Sean on Apr 24, 2006 12:30 AM EDT reply actions

I hear Jesus runs routes well in the rain, like there’s not even water on the field.
