Around SBN: Penn State Recruiting Roundup Is Set For A Big Junior Day

STEALING FROM THE WWL: FELDMAN ON [NAME REDACTED]

We owe the Worldwide Leader three cents or so for lifting this fine excerpt from Feldman's pay blog today. Feldman obviously has a deep understanding of former Florida coach [NAME REDACTED], as evidenced here:

Ron Zook must be smiling, thinking: "Finally, something Gator folks aren't blaming on me!" And then Zook, caught up in the moment, will turn around and head butt the nearest Coke machine.

Yep. That's about right.

Head-butting Coke machines and calling prevent defenses as we speak.

I never understood why Florida fans disliked the zooker so much. Oh well, the gator’s loss is my illini’s gain-we’re going to do whatever we have to keep him in Urbana-Champaigne for years to come.

OMG, put down the crack pipe and slowly step away Matt…

The level of expectation for the fightin’ illini football team fits just right for Ron Zook’s style of coaching (losing games). So, by all means, keep him illinois. Or should i say, illinoisE.

YOU WILL FIND OUT IN DUE TIME THAT HE IS AS GOOD A FOOTBALL COACH AS I AM A BIBLE SCHOOL TEACHER.

you know that from experience, charlie?

“we’re going to do whatever we have to keep him in Urbana-Champaigne for years to come.”

I think the rest of the Big 10 would be happy to contribute to that cause, not that Zooker is in high demand outside of Urbana-Champaigne.

Oh and by the way… look at the records, the Gators certainly didn’t lose anything by getting rid of that guy.

He is probably in the right place now. In the SEC, he was way over his head. At Illinios, he is located near a good recruiting base and the expectaions/demands are in line with what he is able to produce. Let’s just say that RZ might not have the mental horsepower to run a top tier program, but he certainly can recruit (sound familiar Ole Miss?).

a hell of a recruiter too

by matt on Feb 14, 2006 2:27 PM EST reply actions

Everyone who watched the Gators during his coaching tenure saw a coach who could only win the big game after he knew he was fired. I would take him as a recruiter any day of the week. But, I wouldn’t let him coach my son’s soccer team let alone football team.

Does anyone have a link to the whole headbutting a coke machine, thing. This is the first ive heard of that and it sounds pretty damn funny.

Could we please have a Zook vs. Orgeron death match at some point? Call it a thinning the herd match.

Ron Zook is a good man who did his very best for the University of Florida.

But so what?

His prowess as a recruiter was enhanced by the product he was selling. Its easy to sell the University of Florida to kids. Florida’s never had a problem getting good athletes no matter who was the coach. And I’ll even quote Bobby Bowden who answered in response to a question by a reporter about Zook’s recruiting, “You could recruit to the University of Florida.”

As for his coaching . . . as soon as he learns to take some chances and not second guess himself he’ll be fine.

Ron needed to leave UF for reasons that had NOTHING to do with his ability to coach football.

Freudian slip Bonghit? I’m sure there’s other blogs out there where you could get things off your chest… like a cowboy.

Hey Bonghit, thanks for declaring your intentions here, but I have to let you know up front that I am happily married/and a raging hetero, but I’m sure that if you keep puting it out there like that, something’s bound to turn up for you.

Good luck cowboy.

Bonghit, you’re this close to getting labeled as a spammer.

Matt, I’m sure Urbana’s lovely this time of year, what with the -30 degree wind chill and all, but maybe you should leave Central Illinois more often.

Bonghit you give a whole new meaning to “taking one for the team”

have you heard about Gonzaga fans chanting that to their opponents, the WV “Mountain”-iers. The fans were chastized by school officials

Yup. We read Deadspin. Next time a shorter paragraph would be nice.

“Urbana-ChampaignE”?

Freshman Orientation at UI doesn’t include how to spell the name of your town, I guess.
