KEVIN SCARBINSKY: TEASE
Kevin Scarbinsky plays the role of shameless cocktease for South Carolina fans by floating the story of Steve Spurrier's lunch buddy earlier this month: Bill Oliver, madman/poet/genius of the Alabama Stallings' D that beat the sass out of Miami and Gino Toretta in Sugar Bowl. ( A hush falls over the Alabama fans present...we pause in a moment of reverence for George Teague and the boys...) Oliver's not having it, content at 66 to putter around with style, but the never-to-happen collaboration will torment the imaginations of SEC fans NOT playing South Carolina this year for generations to come.

Bill Oliver's defenses...all we remember are the flames, the burning flames, and the horror...

Reverence….at least. Of course, it was from that game the renowned phrase, “Gino who?” was derived. And, as you will recall, it gave us a play, officially negated by a questionable flag, that will live in Bama lore (and on the big screen 7 or 8 times a year)for decades to come.
By the by, does anyone think Bob Riley would be foolish enough to become actively involved in the recruiting wars?
I think not.

The last thing anyone needs (other than Carolina) is to see the Evil Genius and Brother Bill walking the same sideline. It would be like watching the Niners in the ’80s: beautiful football brilliance.

I have a tape of that Sugar Bowl and I still watch it to this day. Thanks for the mention. And, Happy Bday.

bamafan:
I’m doing a weekly feature on my blog called “Video Methadone” that features an Alabama football video every Saturday until the season starts.
I started last week by posting two.
