RICHT GETS CONTRACT EXTENSION
Georgia's Mark Richt is quickly becoming a Georgia institution with his consistent success and now his bid for some serious longevity. Richt was given a 500K raise to 2 Million dollars per annum in an 8 year deal.

Golly Gee, I love being the Georgia coach.

With all that money, he can buy a helicopter. He’s already got the forehead to land it on!

Interestingly enough, according to Mayhem in the AM (Atlanta Morning Sports Talk Show), Richt also has incentive bonuses for raising the grad rates of his players.

Trying to keep Donna Shalala’s hands off of him when the inevitable Coker firing happens in Miami. He’d be stupid to leave UGa, imo – but a couple million bucks never hurt when it comes to decision time.

Wonder if the put in incentives for beating the Gators more than once a decade?

I also heard Richt may divert some of the incentive money to Harrick, Jr. if he’ll return as an academic counsellor.
Seriously…good for Georgia. It’s nice to see a large state school with academic ambition make graduation a priority.

Is it true that the players raised the money for his extension by selling their SEC Championship rings again?

Cool…I love seeing coaches stay in place who can’t beat the Big East champ in what amounts to a home bowl game. Certainly his record in Jax is a bonus as well.

Ryno is right about the incentive bonuses for raising graduation rates, although the details have yet to be worked out (e.g., whether the graduation rates will be tied to N.C.A.A. averages or S.E.C. averages, etc.).
Mark Richt was 40 years old when he was hired to be Georgia’s head coach and he studied under Bobby Bowden, who continues to coach in his 70s.
Five years into his tenure in Athens, Coach Richt is already the fourth-winningest coach in school history. If the ’Dawgs win eight games next season, he will finish his sixth year on the job as the third-winningest coach in school history.
If Coach Richt averages eight wins per year over the course of his career and coaches to the regular retirement age of 65, he will get to 200 wins. The school record for victories is 201, set by Vince Dooley between 1964 and 1988.
Mark my words: Mark Richt will retire from the University of Georgia as the winningest head coach in Bulldog football history.
So he has a big forehead. Maybe he needs it to accommodate a brain that figured out how to win 44 games, three division titles, and two S.E.C. championships in a four-year period.

Don’t hate on the big forehead….yes, I have one too. But looking back at the picture, at least mine isn’t THAT big

The forehead perception isn’t helped by the sweet zipperhead, which looks like YMB, circa 1981.

LSUfan, did you sit behind me at the 2003 SEC Championship Game? ‘Cause the dude who did made that exact same crack. You’d think that as bad as they were beating our asses that night, the LSU people could’ve come up with some better trash-talk.

Stranko and Orson both have big foreheads, thank you very much. They’re both expanding, by the way.
We can’t really hate Richt as we should, btw. He’s just likeable, and his players seem to have less problems mugging and raping people and more the sort of things that could be straightened out in an hour at the DMV. Should UGA have one guy on staff in charge of making sure everyone has a current driver’s license and insurance? That would lower their Fulmer Quotient, for sure.

I still see him as a slicker version of ol’ Bobby. Can’t argue with results, though.
