OREGON RECRUIT CHARGED WITH MURDER

Jurray Casey, who had allegedly verballed to play at the University of Oregon, has another alleged to add to his record: allegedly killing a 17 year old in a shooting in Long Beach, California. We'll go so far as to predict that Bellotti will rescind his supposed offer, and we'll skip the obvious joke about Bobby Bowden suddenly becoming interested. (But we didn't!)

Does this count in the Fulmer Cup standings?

Hmmm…
So does this count for points for Oregon in the Fulmer Cup?

Or towards whatever school manages to scoop him up.

So does this get put towards the Fulmer Cup, or should that only happen for recruits who get arrested after Signing Day?

by italiangator on Jan 25, 2006 3:26 PM EST reply actions

Did Phil Knight approve the murder? Doubtful, and that will be the REAL reason he won’t get a scholarship, not the fact that he’ll be incarcerated.

Does the Fullmer Cup have point allotments for the various infractions? Even if it doesn’t, a murder rap has to be worth at least two.

The kid verballed to Oregon, I believe it must go towards their Fulmer Cup tally. In my humble opinion, if the kid now verbals to another school, that school should then be held accountable for the infraction.

I sure hope this kid got his rocks off while he was able to. From now on he might be getting other mens rocks off for the next decade or so.

For a second I thought it was going to say that he was charged with killing the Fiesta Bowl Director! Can you say “guaranteed BCS birth” in the future?

I’m leaning towards not counting arrests of verbal commitments in light of how tenuos verbals are these days. If Perileaux (sp?) had been arrested last year at this time we’d be rewarding Texas in the Fulmer Cup standings when he ultimately signed with LSU.

EDSBS should start tallying points for the Fulmer Cup (for signed players only, Stranko made a good point).

Murder: 100 pts.
Gun poss: 75 pts.
Assault: 60 pts.
Rape: 50 pts.
DWI: 25 pts.
OWI: 24 pts.
Speeding 20 pts.

Wasn’t he supposed to go to Auburn with Baker the “touchdown maker”?

I like the point system, PSUrob. I think that recruiting kids of questionable character should count for something, though. Maybe 25% of the points? Of course, then there’s the problem of assigning points if a kid is being recruited by multiple schools. Are points docked if the university immediately pulls the offer? And what if a school was in the running for a kid but then backed off, and the kid later goes out and kills someone? How to assign points then?

Damn. Nevermind. I’m one “strength of parental nuturing” category from BCSifying the Fulmer Cup.

I like the idea of counting it towards Oregon until another school takes a chance on him.

C’mooooon, you can’t give the Ducks a cheapie like this! He probably never even SAW a check from Big Phil yet. Giving Oregon the Fullmer points on a verbal commit would be a smear to the integrity of such a prestigious award.

BTW, if Perrilloux had come to Texas, he’d have a big shiny championship ring right now, and Jevan Snead would be memorizing the Black Pope’s playbook; funny how things turn out.

by bitterhorn on Jan 25, 2006 5:41 PM EST reply actions

This whole Fulmer Cup thing is getting too technical. Pretty soon it’ll be like the NCAA rulebook and schools will be citing Article 17 Rule 124.5-2 to determine how to determine a point value when a prospect wearing a UT sweatshirt busts a cap in someone. That said, I say award the points to Oregon, especially if he signs. If he signs with another school, take the points off of Oregon and add them on to that school. Simple as that.

by rebel84 on Jan 25, 2006 5:49 PM EST reply actions

Since the coaches of the Oregon Ducks were not responsible for him in the least bit (oral commitments are fairly meaningless), I don’t think this should count towards the Fulmer Cup. Only when he is a student at whatever school he attends should his actions be held against that school.

The kid will end up at Oregon, no doubt. Bellotti will write a letter to the judge telling him what a saint the kid is…just like he did for Rodney Woods, who served time for manslaughter before.

Remember, Bellotti took Bongterio Smith after he was kicked off the team by Fulmer! What do you have to do to get kicked out of Tennessee??

This will be major points for the Fulmer Cup. Oregon could vault into the Top 5, easy.

A bit of a side note. ESPN is no longer on my address bar. It must be close to a month since I’ve visited their web site.

I thought I might go through some sweaty nights, or even vomit a few times (beer and liquor related pukes do not count) or have some convulsions. Nothing at all.

I’m free. Free at last.

Hell, I like the point system and agree that it’s gotta apply mostly to signed players. Maybe we can lighten the point allotment until the kid actually signs with the school, then add full value.

We also need to award Fulmer Cup bounses for number of players with qualifying offenses listed by PSUrob, since I think 7 kids getting DUIs would be more of an indicator of a programwide lack of discipline than a seperate, more serious offense by 1 or 2 players.

After that, we impose the “Little Mexico” bonus as well, which implies that repeat qualifying offenses by a player will count for a few extra points more than an initial offense.

bellotti took on richie ingognito (for about a week) last season. he likes the bad boy aesthetic. between rodney woods regulating, terrence kelly getting shot and killed and justin phinesse’s gold teeth, oregon is getting really, really street.

but until he is actually on board, no points. keep in mind, i just don’t want to be on here whining about oregon not getting respect in the fulmer cup, only to show how much we don’t deserve to be there in the end…

seriously whats more intimidating than lining up across from a suspected murderer? I mean are you supposed to be worried about him coming on the blitz or coming to kill you?

by Azher on Jan 27, 2006 3:33 PM EST reply actions

Jurray Casey had nothing whatsoever to do with the murder that took place that night. It was simply being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I believe he should be able to keep his full scholarship. Soon everyone will see that he had nothing to do with the shooting and will be released from jail. Through all of his hard times right now, I would hope that everyone will have him in their prayers.
