TEXAS TO ESPN: F*CK YOU!
Do you think the Longhorns watched all month as ESPN performed constant fellatio on the USC Trojans 2005 team? Did the feel just a bit disrespected that the worldwide leader spent far less time talking about the Rose Bowl matchup than they did mythically pitting USC’s second best team in the last 2 years against historically great teams, only to find that noone could stop these Trojans? Perhaps Vince Young felt a little miffed when ESPN decided it would be the number campaigner for Reggie Bush’s Heisman run. Well, Texas got the last word and it was a resounding one. Although Reggie Bush might make for a better pro prospect, Vince Young proved he was the best college player in the country last night. It was clear and unequivocal. Texas had to stop a myriad of USC future first rounders yet they were able to contain Bush save for one big play. USC had only to watch for one playmaker but Young was simply too good. Take that Bristol University!
Who’s the man? That’s right Vince, you’re the man. Now go get yourself paid for this stuff.

I am elated that Texas won. Leinart is cocky dickhead. What about that post game comment, “I still think that we are the better team, Texas just made some plays in the end”. If that’s true why could USC not convert on 4 and 2? It’s hilarious, USC thought they had the game won. Good for Texas and all the other teams out there that always get put down by the press.

Actually, last night Herbstreit did go so far as to admit that he had been giving USC a very considerate reach-around for a while now and that Texas probably used it as motivation. He didn’t, however, make the correct statement that Texas must logically be the greatest team of all time after beating the supposed greatest, USC. I’m waiting for that.

I’m still confused why no one talked about USC burning their last TO on an essentially meaningless 2 point conversion. That time out cost them a chance to tie (on the 2nd to last play Reggie Bush could have cut it up field for another 10-20 yards if they had a time out).

Bush might be a better pro prospect than Young, but he’s not going to be as good at the next level as many think. He finally played a good, fast defense (not a great one)and looked like an all-pac 10 second team kind of back. If USC had to go against ACC-SEC type defenses like Alabama, Va Tech, LSU, FSU, etc. a few times a year-maybe ESPN and all these other media whores would have realized that Lendale White, and the two WRs Smith and Jarret are what make USC a great offense (leinart has an average arm at best, and will have to be in a play-action type of offense a-la the Jets and Chad Pennington a few years back in order to be an effective quarterback)

Well, the way ESPN propped up this USC team as the greatest team in the history of the universe and all, you would have thought that Texas winning would tear a hole in the space/time continuum or something. I half way expected Doc Brown to show up at the post game press conference and tell Matt Leinart that he was now his own grandpa. Texas winning should provide some shut up juice to the people who propped USC 2005 team up as the greatest of all time.

When Leinart gets to the NFL, I hope he faces a pro team with one or two Texas alums on defense who drop his ass like a sack of potatoes for that “We’re still the better team” comment. Nothing makes me madder than to see a team lose and still insist that they’re somehow better. Even when Georgia fans do it.
Also, did you notice that the ESPN/ABC knob-shining of USC continued postgame as they lauded Pete Carroll for waiting around to congratulate Mack Brown after the game ended. Yes, the meeting of coaches at midfield, a rarely-seen tradition that is only executed at . . . nearly every fucking college football game ever played. Why was Pete getting the Mother Teresa treatment for this?

About ten minutes after his non-compete with ESPN Radio expired. He’s been back on locally in DC for about 14 months now, and the show has been simulcast on XM since last spring.
Many of the regular guests — Junior, Bob Ryan, Sam Smith, Mel Kiper, etc. — are still on, and TK can rip the “heads” at ESPN all he likes without getting calls from Bristol mid-show. Since it’s back to being local, though, you’ll get more Post beat writers and quirky local stuff (like James Carville picking NFL games against the spread every week) than you may have been used to on the national show.

The vindication that myself and other LSU fans feel right now is just indescribable. Pete Carroll’s arrogance clearly cost USC the game. Going for it on 4th and 1 or 4th and inches is one thing, but on 4th and 2 knowing that failure means the short field for VY? This isn’t some mickey mouse pac-10 rush defense they can run roughshod over.
Also, about the infamous “knee down” TD, I’m not so sure VY didn’t get the pass off. After watching the replay several times, right before his knee hits the ground his arm goes up in a passing motion. The camera angle I saw was on a straight-line path from the ball to his hand. From that angle it’s impossible to tell whetheer the ball is still in VY’s hand or if the ball just left it. Even if the call was botched, they clearly didn’t call a 3rd Q Leinart interception and 4th Q LenDale White fumble. So USC fans, stop bitching.

no, not saying a thrashing at all. however, citing any level of victory for the Texas defense when they still let in (very roughly)the same amount of points as SC’s better competition is a total crock of sh*t. had Texas stopped them in the low 20’s then we could start to talk.
bush didn’t explode that much because they kept calling plays for him to go outside, never up the middle. Texas adjusted as any defense would and should. however, their D-line was still manhandled by some very large Polynesians. and their d-backs didn’t exactly inspire fear and awe against bird and jarrett.

Good point about SC’s offensive line. Texas’ D line was dominant this year, but not in the rose bowl (except for one 4th and 2 late in the forth qtr). Did anyone else notice Deuce Latui’s face inside that helmet. Looked like the fat that spills over when a big girl wears pumps. He neads all 365lbs just to get that helmet off. Off course Im not saying this if he is standing next to me.

As you can see, there were two teams on that schedule that were in the top 50% of offensive production of the 117 teams in D-1. Be careful with numbers. Looks like Alabama’s schedule is pretty bad. And, I did not include Utah fucking State!!

That number 60 offense on your list hung 40 points on the supposedly great defense of Miami but was held to only 16 (including overtime) by Bama. And number 6 on your list (even better pre-bowl) was held to a whopping 10 points in its bowl game — they had been averaging more than 40.

The really ridiculous aspect of ESPN’s love affair with 2005 USC was that the 2005 team wasn’t nearly as good as the 2004 team.
The 2005 team had a mediocre defense. I fail to see how a defense could lose Mike Patterson, Shaun Cody, Lofa Tatupu and Matt Grootegoed and be better. USC wasn’t. Last year’s USC team wouldn’t have had such trouble with Notre Dame, Arizona State or Fresno State because they could play D. This year’s team couldn’t.
