ARKANSAS HIRES NEW OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
The Arkansas Razorbacks have strived under coach Houston Nutt to have a high school level offense. It worked well with Matt Jones scrambling around and throwing the bomb, but it sputtered a bit this past year. To spark their high school offense, the Razorbacks have done the only logical thing-- hire a high school coach to coordinate the damn thing. Well done Houston Nutt, well done. Leave the complicated stuff to Charlie Weiss.
(We're sure this has nothing to do with waivering super recruit Mitch Mustain either)

Houston Nutt. Crazy like a fox.

Gotta love recruiting down South.
In the past week, rumors have come out of Arkansas detailing the following:
1. ND is recruiting Mustain again
2. Mustain has de-committed from Arkansas
3. ND is recruiting Mustain because they’ve dropped one of their QB recruits due to a ‘character issue’
Never mind the fact that it’s all complete bunk. The guy who ‘reported’ it in the first place was a former SID for Arkansas. It was all attempted damage control for nearly losing Mustain.
Mustain was probably headed to Fullmer (not ND) until Nutt pulled this little stunt off.

Down south our ass, Bill. There’s shennanigannery going on across the nation. The locals here just happen to be a bit more brazen about it.

Hooray, Sports! Grown men’s career trajectories are altered in order to retain the services of boys not yet old enough to vote. I’m also particularly amused by the guy who was moved to “Director of On-Campus Recruiting”. Is this the guy who goes and watches Soccer games to try and suss out a placekicker? Ummm…Jim…uh yeah, your new title is uhhhh director of special projects.

reminds me of Michigan basketball. In 1991, Michigan coach Steve Fischer was recruiting Chris Webber and jalen Rose. When they were on the fence about commiting to the Wolverines, he hired their AAU coach (Rose’s high school coach) Perry Watson as an assistant.
Nothing bad came out of that for Michigan basketball, right? I’m sure Nutt won’t have any problems either.

It’s been reported the Nutt told Mustain the Cutcliffe would be the next OC at Arkansas. He built Cutcliffe up so much that when he took the UT job for $100K less than Arkansas offered him Mustain had second thoughts. And so they hired his high school coach to keep him.

Mitch Mustain. Man, with that kinda name the kid would pull tail even if he wasn’t the quarterback.

Right up there with Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
He can be my wingman any day.

He’s like a cross between Ty Webb’s old college roommate Mitch Cumstein and Dave Mustain of death-guitar fame.

He was thrown out of college for night-putting with the dean’s daughter, we think.
by Orson Swindle on Dec 9, 2005 4:50 PM EST reply actions
How much more is Mitch going to develop as a quarterback under his old high school coach? I repeat, his high school coach. In a right thinking world, shouldn’t this be more reason to join Cutcliffe at Tenn or hope for room at the inn in Sith Bend?

Orson -
So in May of 2007 when Mitch is dismissed from the Arkansas team for “violating a team rule”, we’ll know exactly who is was that he violated*.
*Arkansas Athletics official site says Nutt has twin 17 year old girls.

Let’s critique Nutt’s process:
Offer $400K to Cutcliffe (having groomed Tee Martin, Peyton, Eli, and Heath Shuler (he WAS good in college), coached Ole Piss to 4 bowl games before getting canned by impatient, unrealistic Toddy fans and was hired to run the offense for this years hottest new coach (Weis).
Result: The guy (Cutcliffe) takes $100K less to coach another team with a losing record and because his kids don’t want to move to NW Arkansas (after having moved to Oxford and presumably South Bend before health conditions).
Nutt then CHOOSES to hire a HS coach for presumably less money to run an offense (and recruit) for a D1A program in the country’s most competitive conference. This based on the coaches qualifications having just won the Arkansas State Championship with a team loaded with D1A talent) in a state that frankly doesn’t produce that much D1A talent.
And people criticized Fulmer for not hiring the best OC available and staying in his comfort zone.

Mike—who criticized Fulmer for hiring Cutcliffe?
by Orson Swindle on Dec 9, 2005 5:25 PM EST reply actions
I suppose he means before Cutcliffe the return.

Sure—who criticized him for Cutcliffe 2, the Revenge of Dave?
by Orson Swindle on Dec 9, 2005 5:29 PM EST reply actions
Orson,
Lots of the poisoned people on the UT chat board who live under a delusion that ANYONE/EVERYONE would die to coach at UT under Fulmer. The “we need an updated offense” crowd who think Fulmer hired his good friend to do more of the same (I liked the ‘same’ we had in the 90’s) rather than modernize our offense. Didn’t that modernization work wonders in Gainesville this year?
Typical internet poison from people who know nothing.
by Mike on Dec 9, 2005 5:32 PM EST reply actions
A segment of the Tennessee fanbase has loudly criticized Fulmer for not hiring “new blood”.
by rjm on Dec 9, 2005 5:35 PM EST reply actions
Figured—the “Master Shake” crowd of fans.
As for our modernization…it’s coming around a bit. A year of adjustments could culminate nicely in the Outback Bowl. (Fingers crossing furiously.)

Montana,
File under “better late than never”: It’s Weis, not Weiss. Weiss is a beer type.
by E-Man on Dec 10, 2005 8:19 AM EST reply actions
W-E-I-S. It isn’t that difficult to remember. Charlie WEIS. Not Weiss. Is correctly spelling the name of a coach with 4 super bowl rings too much to ask for?
by Dave on Dec 10, 2005 7:01 PM EST reply actions
Quick Dave, give me the spelling of the hooded Genius’ without looking. Didn’t think so.

More proof that Houston Nutt is plain out batshit crazy:
Sunday’s edition of the Democrat-Gazette described an ESPN interview of Houston Nutt wherein he was asked what percent of Arkansas voters would vote for Hillary if she were to run for president in ’08. His response: 100 percent.
