BARNETT UPDATE, PART TWO: REALLY, HE’S BUNKERED IN. WE’RE NOT KIDDING.
In News of the Weird a few years ago, we read about a pair of farmers who died when one fell into an enormous tank filled with pigshit, and the other died attempting to rescue him but was overcome by the fumes. We couldn’t really remember reading about a more disgusting way to die.
It’ s getting pigshit ugly in Boulder. We were joking yesterday when we said Gary Barnett was bunkered in his office, but despite House that Rock Built’s liveblog detailing the fictional standoff. But Barnett, whose shame gland was removed about the same time as his ability to coach was, isn’t budging, plugging his ears and continuing to grind along as if none of this “crap” (his words) was going on.
Which leaves AD Bohn with only the most noxious, damaging cards left to play: witness tampering, compromising random drug tests, and the divulging of a private investigator’s full haul on the Barnett portfolio of malfeasance. Scorched earth tactics are in full swing. We may have our most sensational story of the offseason underway before Bowl Game one even happens.

Call in the negotiator–Barnett’s not coming out.

Lets see, you have the last remnants of the McCartney “Promise Keepers, Gangland violence, and impregnation of the coaches daughter (twice)” regime on one hand. On the other, you have fat hairy female buffaloes (and lets not forget ralphie either, btw) and trustafarians with a guilt complex who think Berkeley is “too conservative”. Yeah, NO ONE saw this situation coming… It sucks, unless, like me, you live in CO and get a front row seat to this baby Gotterdamerung.

You guys should also have a picture of Milton from Office Space for Barnett. Seriously, is there another guy more than Barnett who seems like he’d burn down the building over losing his stapler.

Nick, I think I speak for everyone when I say that the days when “Straight Outta Compton” was CU’s recruiting philosophy are sorely missed. I keep forgetting- weren’t Eric Bienemy and Rashaan Salaam actual Crips?

Ryno says:
Fuck that shit.
All Gary Barnett is doing is taking time away from important shit. Like Ors and Strank posting Part II of their Tampa Bay guide and their focus on strip clubs.
What the hell is that ass-hat thinking?

Mike says:
I agree with Ryno – other than a handful of folks living in or around Boulder, no one else in the college football universe cares about what goes on at CU. Evidence: They win (albeit in an ugly way) the Big 12 North and have like 2,000 fans at the Championship game (returning over 3,000 tickets from their allotment). These folks, and maybe they’re right, care more about the snow base at Winter Park than a college football game.

Nick says:
Mike, you are right, which is one reason Barnett is going. The people that care about football in Boulder are outnumbered about 20-1 by people who abhor everything about organized sports (except hacky-sack and ultimate frisbee).

That’s not the way it used to be, necessarily…is the lack of interest a cause or a side effect of the decline?

It’s got to be a little disqueting to hear the President of the University say that the allegations of witness tampering and tip-offs for drug tests won’t impact your contract status. He’s apparently decided to fire him already.

I keep thinking that someday I’m going to walk down Pearl Street and see an actual pretty girl instead of some fat granola eating androg with armpit hair peeking out of her shirt sleeves, looking for the nearest street demonstration to join.
I keep forgetting- weren’t Eric Bienemy and Rashaan Salaam actual Crips?
I don’t remember if Bienemy and Salaam were among them but there were actual Crips on the team and much video footage exists of them throwing down signs to each other and the camera during games. Don’t forget that Rae Carruth spent his formative University years in Boulder as well.

Nick says:
Orson, I’m not a CU alum or booster of any kind. So I feel that I am 100% non-biased, but maybe not privy to all the inside knowledge. In answer to your question, I think it is a little of both. Boulder has been liberal for a long frickin time, but in the past 15 years, it has become increasingly militantly liberal (fyi – 94% Kerry, harrassing republicans at the booths). I am not by any means saying that democrats don’t like football as much as republicans, but this band is very anti-establishment, and what is more old-boy network in their eyes than CFB? With the decline in success and continued problems off the field, the defenders of CFB in Boulder haven’t a leg to stand on to defend the program vs these people. The students are largely trustafarians with high expectations, so the sense of entitlement they have causes them to abandon the program in rough times, which just keeps spiraling down. (If you need an idea of the campus, go rent PCU. The feminazis, the stoners, etc.) They need a fresh start with coaching AND administration. I don’t say this because I want to root for them, but as a fan, it is sad to see any football program (other than the canes) in decline.

Chris, I was under the impression that NU doesn’t count CU as a rival even though McCartney sort of named NU as CU’s rivalry in ‘82? I wonder what the divorce rates between the CU/CSU “mixed” marraiges will be out here before all is said and done – that is an ugly rivalry, not quite NCST vs ECU or The State of FL vs. Miami’s roster, but ugly enough.

You guys are all missing the point. We are talking about this as opposed to discussing the Every Day Should Be Saturday Tampa Bay Strip club review?
I mean how can you compare discussions on Gary Barnett to discussions on the 36DD cans of some broad who’s father didn’t hug her enough?

we may need Wizzer White to issue a writ from the grave to take Barnett out of the bunker; at least he’s had 36 hours notice to collect all of the football camp cash-laden shoe boxes on his way out.
Has a program ever had a run of 3 clown head coaches in a row like CU with McCartney-Neuishel-Barnett?
Shouldn’t Sal Anaste’s shotgun son be a high school recruit by now?
