TAKE THE PIGSKIN BOWLING
The Bowls are set and strangely there is not a single compelling game on New Year’s Day. As usual, it is a mix of shitty matchups and some interesting games. There are also some interesting sponsorships this year, like the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. Aren’t the history and traditions of college football magnificent? Who could give this up for a playoff? Certainly not the Oregon Ducks, who will play on December 29th in the Holiday Bowl against the powerhouse that was Oklahoma.

Violent revolution may be in order, Roddy.
Oh, sorry–you were talking about the BCS. For a minute I thought this was the ESPN discussion.

I can’t say that I’m in any way shape or form excited with the way things turned out for PSU, but whatever, it’s the way that the BCS is set up, not any one team’s fault.
ND got an arrangement set up where they will effectively guarantee themselves a BCS bowl by going 9-2 (maybe 9-3). This seems particularly unfair to those with 10-1 or 10-2 teams that are on the outside looking in, but that’s the deal and the BCS schools agreed to it. ND has also, by remaining independent, guaranteed that it won’t slide into a bowl by winning a conference but being 8-4 overall. ND won’t get in if it doesn’t win, but it also will rarely find a deserving squad get left out.
Bottom line, the BCS is a lousy solution to a problem near and dear to many people’s hearts. It’s not worthwhile to blame a single team for the failings of a whole system. If people don’t like it, tough shit, that’s what we have and I can’t see a clear way to solve it without violent revolution.
