Orson Swindle and Stranko Montana are two men pushing thirty who should know better than to run a college football blog, but evidently don't. Both graduated from the University of Florida, and both agree that college football is far too important to be left to the professionals.

I agree that KJ is a College FB Broadcast Hall of Famer, and that nearly anyone who watched last night’s Rose Bowl probably grew up watching games called by KJ. A “Whoa Nellie” on a Saturday afternoon puts a grin on my face! But when an announcer’s play-by-play makes me stop thinking about the game and instead wondering about whether the announcer knows what’s time zone he’s in, then its distracting and the announcer (no matter how good) should hang it up. After all, Kareem, Wilt and MJ were amazing in their day, but they had to hang it up eventually.
Re. Fouts: I actually tend to like him. But near the end of the game last night I mentioned to my wife that the announcer (meaning Jackson) was getting old and was slipping a bit. Then during the post-game on-camera comments by Jackson and Fouts, my wife asked which guy was the one I had said was getting too old for this, “the guy with the beard?”

ABC needs to buy out Jackson’s contract and put him out to pasture. Please. Save him from embarassing himself and Dan Fouts in front of hundreds of millions of viewers. The Rose Bowl was a travesty. I can’t begin to count the number of mistakes Jackson made last night, but here’s a start:
1) Failing to recognize that it was the end of the 3rd quarter, not a timeout, that halted play as Texas was preparing to kick a field goal
2) Failing to recognize that Dan Fouts was referring to the handoff to Lendale White when Fouts said “He’s got it”, and Jackson snapped back “No, he didn’t get it”, on 4th and 2
3) Repeatedly referring to the score as ‘breaking the tie’ when Texas was actually down by 1 and preparing to kick a field goal
I could go on. He used to be the best announcer in college football. But clearly his reputation is all that is keeping him employed at this point. Spare us all further misery. Please.

Keith is very prejudice for USC and it shows so much that
it leaves you feeling like the step child….He is very unprofessional and not able to hide his feelings. This is not good. I watch football when he calling plays but I MUTE the TV. Don’t need to here is predudice comments.
Truly should be removed from sportscasting on public airwaves.

For some reason, I feel like Nessler was involved in the Stanford game. But I’ll defer to you, and pimp-slap Fouts instead.

IrishBearcat–it’s not Nessler you’re thinking of. Dan Fouts is Jackson’s broadcast partner and designated sponge-bath giver. Brad Nessler is a play-by-play man, not a color man, and my pick for best in the business. He calls games accurately and unbiased, unlike Jackson, and without the need to speak in constant hyperbole, unlike Mushburger. Perhaps I’m biased because I love Nessler calling the game action on the PS2 (as I win NC after NC, buahahaha!!). Jackson may have been great in the day, but he’s older than JoePa, and more senile. I agree–Fouts is an idiot who deserves pimp-slapping. But then no one would volunteer to feed Keith his mashed prunes.

Keith Jackson = All time Greatest College Football Announcer. Period.
The part about K.J. not liking notre dame is just icing on the cake.

I think Keith might also have a little bug up his arse about his “retirement” game a few years back between ND and USC. As a farewell present, USC gave him a nice small statue of Tommy Trojan…something that would probably cost you a few hundred bucks. Notre Dame gave him a Fightin’ Irish blanket.
I have this blanket. I got it for Christmas 5 or 10 years ago…from my teenage sisters…with their own money.
Non-Keith related: Nessler needed to get pimp-slapped for his treatment of the last two minutes of ND/Stanford too. Here’s why:
2 minutes left…just after Stanford picked up 1st and goal. 1st down ends up with a tackle inbounds at the 5. ND calls their first timeout. This is where Nessler loses it…
…he says that ND was doing Stanford a favor by calling time. His reason for this is that now Stanford doesn’t have to spike the ball to stop the clock. Brad…it was 2nd and goal. Under no circumstances would Stanford have run out of time. ND called time to give them a chance if they needed a drive of their own.
Turns out they did…and the plan worked perfectly.
But back to Keith. He hates ND. Loves the Pac-10, the SEC, and all FL schools. He’s getting a little dim these days. If only they could transplant his voice box into someone with his brain still intact.

I don’t mind Jackson’s anti-Irish bias: ND and ND fans are pretty tough to take. But seriously, I can only stand so many agriculture references per football game. The kicking tee reference was high comedy.
I know people become strangely emotionally attached to sportscasters, but I’ve never understood why sportcasters alone are allowed to perform their jobs until they literally die of old age. Harry Caray, Jack Buck, Keith Jackson? What’s the appeal of listening to a decrepit old man mumbling incoherently about your favorite team?
Seriously. Musberger/Madden/Lundquist is the best we can come up with? Syracuse pops out 5,000 new sportscasters every year but I’m going to have to listen to Al Michaels do Monday Night Football games in 2023?
