THE AXES CONTINUE TO FALL AT TENNESSEE
Following their first losing season under the Fulmer regime, the house cleaning is in full swing. Offensive coordinator Randy Sanders turned in his clip board following the loss to Darth Visor and the Gamecocks. Now that the season is over, Fulmer has axed two more offensive coaches, Jimmy Ray Stephens and Pat Washington. Stephens coached the offensive line and Washington was the receivers’ coach. The new offensive coordinator will select his assistants at such time as he is named.

Fulmer used his experience in cleaning out buffets as he turned his attention to the offensive staff.

I understand how the ill will towards UT can contribute to this, but really, how can we still be using Fulmer as the go-to fat guy when Mark Mangino is still coachin’ ‘em up in Lawrence? I’m remarkably happy that KU is bowl-bound; that means Manginoplasty is going nowhere and we’re one step closer to the first decorative muu-muu being worn on the sideline.

Point well taken. More Mangino Fat Jokes are a must. It is just that old habits die hard.

Fulmer is by far the highest-profile heavyweight in the ranks of 1-A college football. There are others who are probably heavier (Toledo’s Tom Amstutz, KU’s Mark Mangino, Maryland’s Ralph Friedgen), but they’re stuck in Fulmer’s very large shadow.
If I were a player, I would have a hard time taking crap from a coach whose lack of personal discipline kept him from being in even moderately decent shape.

Fulmer’s so ripe for satire, though. Mostly because he’s an asshole.
To wit:
UT and South Carolina both go after top RB prospect Derek Watson. Holtz gets Watson to go to USC. Fulmer gets angry. Judas Brutus decides that if he can’t get the recruit, he’ll screw the program, so he lobbies that USC committed rule violations. Watson gets stoned too much and gets kicked off the team, leaving Carolina for SC State (’round ‘02 or so). 2004: Holtz leaves, the AD leaves, Spurrier arrives. 2005: Hello, probation. All thanks to two reprobates like the Hutt and Watson.
So, I guess that’s the deal — no matter what a screw-up the big-time recruit is, if you go up against Fulmer, he’ll have your ass in front of the NCAA if he loses. Nice guy.

Fulmer will always be a sore loser. He’s taking his lumps this year, and can anyone really see him turning things around next year. Have fun in the middle of the league and bringing out 100,000 fans to see you get waxed.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present Schadenfreude 2005. Fat Fills misery brings so much joy to those of us who view the world through Crimson colored glasses. Now if he can just do it again……..

interesting notes (that I’m sure at least some of you already know)
Not only did UT’s now-former O-Line Coach (Jimmy Ray Stevens) coach at the University of Florida under Steve Spurrier (particularly during their 1996 Championship season), but he also was the head coach at Fort Walton Beach High School (my alma mater) — where he marched down to Gainesville, Danny Weurffel in tow, to win the 1991 State Championship in the Swamp. Go Vikings.

Jimmy Ray clearly was a plant in the program to bring us down, I also read somewhere that CJ Leak was Jimmy’s illegitimate son. There is a definite plot twist here orchestrated by Orson and his demonic followers! Honestly though guys, the football world will still hate UT no matter who coaches, agreed? And Fulmer is public enemy #1 here in the Volunteer State as well, we’ll be back! Until then Go Dawgs! Win it for the East!
