SHOCKLEY CLEARED TO PRACTICE.
The city of Athens is breathing a collective sigh of relief this morning after learning that Shockley is cleared for practice today. Georgia has a bye week this week but then a show down with an improving Auburn squad the following week which could prove critical to their hopes of an SEC championship. The Dawg’s are clearly a different team with the Shocker in there, but the question remains as to how much the knee will hamper him.

The gods may once again be smiling down on the Bulldogs from the Acropolis in Athens

Thanks for the acknowledgement SM that the Dawgs are a different team with DJ at QB. Some Gators I know refused to acknowledge such a “theory.”

The Dawgs would have won that game 28-14 with Shockley. Perhaps worse as the Gators would have been less confident. I truly felt that UGA was one of the top 4 teams with a healthy Shockley… but thems are the breaks.

Yeah, perhaps the biggest play of that game occured the week before in Sanford Stadium on third and nine against Arkansas when DJ went down.
I’m afraid when the season is over and done with, Georgia fans will look back on Shockley’s injury and rank it right up there with such horrific moments as Herschel leaving for something called the USFL and Steve O. Spurrier leaving Durham, North Carolina and heading south.
But congrats on the win. Your D and special teams have improved vastly…

Yeah, the Dawgs don’t have Shockley. We’re missing Caldwell. Our WR of the game sprained his ankle. We have a first year coach. We had a bye week. There are too many variables to really call that game. Would it have been closer? Almost certainly. Would we have kicked some field goals or tried harder? Almost certainly.
Saying UGA would have won with Shockley is too much of a crapshoot.
But yes, they are a different team with him.

You people are nuts. Georgia is a different team without DJ at quarterback–the play calling that is usually just awful becomes abysmal. It is impossible for me to believe that the same guy calling plays in Athens called them in Tallahassee when that offense was good. Joe T was not put in a position to succeed and yet almost did anyway.
That said, I would never say that we beat ourselves. Florida and the Urban Legend deserve credit for admitting their offense sucked and switching to real one. That’s the difference–Florida put their guy in a situation where he could perform. I thought I saw a few flashes of the spread option in the 3rd quarter, but by then the damage was done.

One telling stat from the UF-UGA game was the fact that Leak was only sacked once against a pretty good UGA defense. He had been sacked 21 times before this game. I don’t know if this was the O-line stepping it up or changes to the blocking scheme, but it definitely helped this offense stay on the field for longer portions of time.
As for Shockley, the game would have been much different. I really don’t know what would have happened with him in there, but it may have been the Bulldogs on top. Who knows?
