SANDERS OUT AT UT.
It’s finally happening: the Sega-matic performance artist known as Randy Sanders is effectively gone from Tennessee. According to TennVolChamp, the successor will be an emergency committee with former OC David Cutcliffe pitching in with Fulmer. The other casualty will likely be Jimmy Ray Stephens, offensive line coach.

Randy Sanders will be packing up his playbook ASAP, according to sources.

Last time Tenn. Lost to South Carolina, they fired the head coach.
Good to see folks are mellowing out over there.

There’s a thread on the GT message board where people are excited that he might be available to hire. Yes, that’s how desperate we are on offense.

Two words: Techmo Bowl. Sanders was way more old-school bad than the Sega Genesis.
Then again, I run up the middle on goal line formations practically every play in NCAA 2006. Smashmouth football, baby.

So, I’m confused–is Cutcliffe beginning right away (i.e. for the ND game) or is Sanders around for the rest of the season? This makes a HUGE difference–with the Sega offense, Tenn doesn’t stay within 3 TD’s of ND. With Cutcliffe (who knows a little about Weis’s offense–and no matter what someone said about him being a standup guy and not helping against ND in another thread, if he’s hired to coach for Tenn, then helping against ND, in any way he can, is his JOB) calling the shots, I’d say ND by 7, but it could be really close.

I figure Sanders’ WR screen offense will be useful in a Pee Wee league somewhere.
