No shock here. In fact, the only surprising thing I thought about the whole game was that Georgia came back at all and kept UF from scoring after the first 2 drives. Georgia actually covered against some lines (4-5).
A tough loss, but not (in my mind at least) unexpected.
Of course, now both Georgia and Florida are in must-win situations against Auburn and USC, respectively. With those 2 games and Alabama vs. LSU, November 12th is going to be Judgment Day.
Great game that added to an already great rivalry.
Shockley would have changed the game in some aspects, but I think it would have still been similar. I just can’t believe how the Gators looked on the first two drives but then weren’t able to score anymore. What is up with that?
when Baker went down, our offense predictably stalled. and still, we were on the doorstep to 21 points, and inexplicably fumbled the QB-RB exchange. a TD there completely changes UGA’s mindset coming into the 2nd half (richt admitted to as much in his halftime interview) and who knows what the final score would have been?
I don’t understand why everyone is so shocked. Everyone was on a UGA kick for some stupid reason. Look:
1) Shockley was out. HUGE setback for UGA offense. UF defense is da best. If anything, I’m surprised UGA didn’t have more tricks up their sleeve.
2) As poor as his offense was against Bama and LSU, Urban isn’t an idiot. He knew his rep was riding and he genuinely wants to have a winning team. Every pundit and their mom was saying “Protect Leak”. There was no way he wouldn’t retool the defense.
3) The Gators had a bye week beforethe game. They were hurting for this win. They had 2 full weeks to completely rework the offense and Urban (if you look at his history) has an excellent bye week record.
My reasoning is a bit patchy in spots, but everyone who predicted a UGA win is an assclown.
Ah,yes…Gainesville, FL….where trash isn’t thrown away, it’s educated(though clearly not on football). While Shockley’s being out certainly made a difference offensively for the Dawgs, several key players were either playing injured or on the sidelines. The Florida defense was good enough to limit UGA’s offense, lead by the second team QB, to 10 points. Congratulations, I’m sure you would also get a thrill out of beating a quadrapalegic in a foot race. The Florida offense was still only able to put up 14 points on the board against a depleted defense. I know, Florida fumbled near the goaline at the end of the first half. That was a mistake that probably cost Florida some points. UGA receivers dropped a couple passes that would have put more points on the board for Georgia. So nobody should say that Florida “should have had those points”. Due to an inexperienced backup starting for UGA, the Dawgs were forced to run the ball nearly every play. It must have been really tough for Florida to defend against an offense that they know is going to run the ball 90% of the time. If Vince Young hadn’t played on Saturday, Texas would’ve lost to Oklahoma State. If Leinhardt hadn’t played in any of those close games this year, they probably would’ve lost too. The Dawgs lost without Shockley…not shocking at all. Shockley will be back for Auburn and Kentucky and lead UGA to an SEC championship. So to all those Gator fans out there, have fun at the Outback Bowl.
Sour grapes. While not “shocking” as the title claims, FL beat us. Not much you can say about losing 14 out of the last 16 games. Every year they kick our ass, and every year we have excuses. We put our best available on the field, so did they. They had multiple injuries, so did we. Shockley is the best QB, in my opinion, in the SEC. If he’s there he does change the way the game is played. Maybe we win, maybe we don’t. But, he was hurt and we lost…Again. I’m tired of all the excuses. We lost. PERIOD.
And may we remind the average Georgia fan…we’ve lived in both states, and there’s no monopoly on trash in either. Georgia was the place where, at an actual funeral, a friend saw a blue and white flower arrangement in the shape of a telephone that said “WHEN JESUS CALLS.” On the other hand, nowhere in Georgia has anyone decided that selling hot dogs on the side of the road in a bikini is a good idea. Push.
1. It’s 44 wins.
2. Yeah, congrats on dominating us from 1915 to 1930. Take those wins away and we lead the series.
On second thought, go ahead and keep the all-time series lead (hell, we’ll even throw in that 1904 win Georgia “created”, even though Florida didn’t start football till 1906). It’s just a matter of time till we pass your sorry arse – but don’t worry, we’ll wave as we zip past you.
Now go bury your head in your kudzu and red clay, Georgia boy, and we’ll call you next October when it’s time for your next humiliating loss!
VP Gator, why don’t you just pick out all the years that florida won and then you could be undefeated against us. And, if our arse is sorry, that says something about your arse doesn’t it.
Now just go bury your head in some swamp because you won’t be playing in the SEC championship this year either.
“You might can spell dominance but, you certainly don’t know the definition which is 45 losses and 36 wins.”
Bwahahaha. Is this including back in WW2 when the FSU coach signed his players up for ROTC, while the Gators and other honorable teams actually went out to fight and die for their country?
If you root for UGA, you’re rooting for bin Laden.

Suddenly looking like one of the softest one loss teams in the country.
