PrintThe Fighting Illini football received one year of probation thanks to an over zealous booster providing improper benefits to a recruit. Given Illinois' football prowess over the last few years, I'd say it was a waste of money.

This ranks up there with the NCAA giving probation to Mississippi State and Kentucky. I say, if your program sucks, you should be given a free pass. If those paid players create some wins, then you should get smacked.
