LD BREAKS OUT THE CHRONOSCEPTER ON ESPN ET AL.

LD of Gunslingers forces us to dig deep and pull out a Turok, Dinosaur Hunter reference in order to adequately describe the devastation he lays on the forced narratives imposed by the national media on college football. The best post we've read all week .

LD gets Jurassic on the media. We watch with glee.

You know how Brian wanted to handout end of season awards. Well Gunslinger’s get the first annual “No Chance in Hell of Being Linked Off Of SI on Campus” Award. The trophy is a bust of Stewart Mandel. Gunslinger can put it in his bathroom.

Like I needed another reason to NOT to watch College Gameday again…

Excellent read.

I’m paraphrasing Little Jeans from Rushmore when I say, best post ever man.

And lets throw a little love Orson’s way too..
For avoiding a played out Star Fox reference and putting a little more edgy “Turok” spin on things.

Had it been Golden Eye I would have stood up and applauded at my computer.

Appreciate the link and words, but I’m not really familiar with Turok. Perhaps Rampage?

Goldeneye must be saved for a truly transcendent post.

And while we’re on video games, the wife was watching America’s Next Top Model last night. I walked by as they were showing a photo and I said “Man, she looks just like Blanka from Street Fighter.” The wife had to pause the TiVo because she was laughing so hard. I just stared at her, stunned that she knew who Blanka was.

Here’s the photo.

“I walked by as they were showing a photo…” I am not buying it. You were glued to the TV the whole episode and probably started talking back when Tyra kicked off the wrong girl.

Thats how you know she’s a keeper LD

When she openly acknowledges Street Fighter Characters

The girl who got kicked off probably was the best looking one left, I’ll admit. Clearly the best body.

I was writing the link above at the same time, so I wouldn’t say I was actively watching it. But I also wouldn’t say I didn’t know what was going on.

Well, not to be a BCS honk, but it’s not like a playoff guarantees a 1 v. 2 match-up, particularly if one were talking a 16-team tourney. The simple reason: #1 or 2 could be upset before meeting in the championship. Read Jon Walter’s SI column from a day or so ago for more detail, but the bottom line is this, CFB does settle it on the field, it’s called the regular season. And while there are warts, if Auburn wants to strictly settle it on the field in today’s system, it (or any other team for that matter) needs to go 13-0 and the 13 can’t include the Citadel, Sam Houston St. or any directional school.

by Heff on Oct 27, 2005 6:18 PM EDT reply actions

That doesn’t make any sense, Heff. If Auburn had played Oregon last year instead of the Citadel, then you’re saying they would have gotten into the top 2 in virtue of their 13-0 record? Maybe so, but then Oklahoma would have been left out even though they went 12-0, too. “Oh, but if OK wants to settle it strictly on the field, they need to go 13-0 and one of those 13 can’t be [insert the worst three teams that OK played].”

Okay, so if OK got rid of one of those patsies and played someone with teeth, but still went 12-0 in the reg. season, then they are automatically in the top 2? So who gets bumped this time? Auburn again? (should have played Cal instead of Oregon) USC? (should have played Tennessee instead of Hawaii).

The point is that when three (major conference) teams go undefeated, only two can get in. But every team did everything they could do within their own (major) conference. We now have to pick one to kick out. Saying that Auburn was the odd man out last year because of their schedule is fine, since we had to kick someone out, but maybe the better thing would be to come up with a way for all the undefeated teams to square off against each other. In no other sport does a team go undefeated but then simply get told that they’re not as good as another team that they never even got a chance to play, simply because the AD scheduled a weak non-conf opponent five years earlier. It’s a sucky way to decide things when you have a “logjam” of really good teams at the top (and any BCS conference team that goes undefeated is “really good”).

As for a “big” playoff (16 teams), I agree with you Heff. That’s stupid. All we need is a “final four.” Anything more threatens the traditional integrity of the regular season. But letting the top four teams “settle it on the field” sounds eminently reasonable to me. To finish in the top four, you pretty much have to go undefeated or have only one loss. And if you have the one loss, there are no guarantees. In other words, it’s pretty similar to how it is now. You know what you have to do, and that if you lose one game you open yourself up to getting “screwed” at the end of the year by the BCS formula if it likes another one-loss team over you. Every game will be just as significant as before, because even one loss could still eliminate you from the final four at the end.

Excellent article Ors.

I did note in reading the comments for the article on gunslinger that a Bammer (Kyle I think was his name) showed up and added his thoughts with the obligatory obsession with Phil Fulmer. What would be real newsworthy would be a post by a Bama fan that made no reference to Fulmer but did make mention of the $100,000’s of dollars their booster was spreading across the HS coaches offices in Memphis.
