Around SBN: Penn State Recruiting Roundup Is Set For A Big Junior Day

YOU THINK YOU'RE HARD?

You ain't, unless you are willing to play ACC football a mere six weeks after having your spleen rupture during a game. That is exactly what Clemson's Cole Downer intends to do this week. Downer lost 4 pints of blood, endured a week long hospital stay and lost 20 pounds. Why you ask is Downer so intent on playing? In his words:

"This is my last year playing. I want to get in as many games as I could."

Sounds reasonable enough to me.

Off topic: Shula isn’t Brick. Offensive coordinator Dave Rader is.

“The ball is oblong,” offensive coordinator Dave Rader said, “and it bounces funny.”

Brilliant insight.

That is pretty fucking hardcore.

And here I was thinking that the BYU kid that had the tip of his finger cut off during the ND game, who still came back out to return kicks, was fucking hardcore.

I think that is pretty hard core too, since he didn’t miss any time.

Downer has been doing conditioning work every day. He just hasn’t had any contact since the injury. I doubt he’ll be the same blocker that he was, but he should still be a great option on playaction.

Well unfortunately there’s not a good story to stick this too, so I just stuck it on top in hopes you’ll see it soon. It does beg the question, especially after the LSU scouting breakdown, of whether or not your entire coaching staff spends the entire week practicing pointing and staring in the mirror. The highlight quote:

“I haven’t been told (Shockley is not playing) yet,” Meyer said. “I guess when I hear that, it’s a different deal. Until then, you’re making a major mistake if you don’t prepare.”
