Had Auburn gone undefeated again this year, they still don’t get to play in the NC game. Too many of the voters never get to see all the teams play, and they set the teams up based on what they hear in the national media, thus the ESPN comment. Basically, they would have to have beaten ranked LSU, UGAx2, and Bama, which is what they were told they had to do last season to play for the title.

Why is this? Because hte media talked about how “down” Auburn was going to be without the drafted playerd from last season. They could never have made up the ground that they have to to make it to the NC game. It is VERY possible that the Sugar Bowl feature an undefeated VT vs. undefeated Bama/UGA. No way the winner of that games leapfrogs to be crowned NC.

Also, if you listen to most of the commentators, they keep talking about USC’s last 3 years, not really talking about THIS year. You would also think that Reggie Bush was able to walk on water, and that Leinart, Bush, White and Jerrett alone could beat every team in the country.

There is going to be another snub of a team that was deserving, and it would be really funny as heck if USC got snubbed. However, my money is on VT getting left out in the cold.

That said, I don’t think Champ Bailey should’ve won the Heisman. Just like I think Woodson shouldn’t have. And if you think ESPN/ABC didn’t have something to do with it, you’re nuts. There’s a reason UT fans hate ESPN – and it’s directly traceable to that year. They fluffed Woodson so much he got meatswell.

And Bowden IS/WAS horrible – what a whiney/squeeky pitiful example of a coach (and maybe even to some degree a person -see secretary).

But surely there’s some other southerners that could do a good job.

Did we lose the War of Northern Aggression? My grandmother always says it’s just halftime. We’ll go halfway around the world to free an unfriendly people from tyranny(sp) but force American’s to live under the tyranny spewing out of Washington D.C. everyday. (I don’t mean Bush specifically, but the every growing, every dominating federal government run by aristocrats beholden to anyone with a checkbook except the American taxpayer.)

FTR, I can’t stand Manning, but he deserved it that year. Woodson is a poor man’s Champ Bailey.

Now you got my dander up. Woodson’s been injured for the pros but unless Champ Bailey stepped in and was All Pro from day one, there’s no comparison, and don’t blame ABC/ESPN for never beating Florida. Woodson singlehandedly beat Ohio State and sent his team to the national championship game as a corner.

Where’s Tony Basilio? Maybe you can call in and sheep for him sometime.

Oh, and Holtz and Tuberville both have the same number of unbeaten seasons. It took Holtz 19 years, Tuberville 10.

But really, why is everyone feeling the need to defend Lou Holtz? The real debatable issue in Tuberville’s comments is the ESPN hegemony.

He’s Cheatypants McSweatervest in 20 years with a sickly farcical “I’m a nice senile old man” thing going on.

FTR, I can’t stand Manning, but he deserved it that year. Woodson is a poor man’s Champ Bailey.

Tuberville: 45-39 (.536)

If you look at the all time records, Holtz isn’t that much better. If you look at the SEC records, Tuberville doesn’t look like all that much of a hypocrite (and really, he only knocked Holtz on winning in the SEC).
