SI AND MIKE PRICE SETTLE SUIT
Both sides still say they are right, but now the matter has been confidentially resolved. For those completely out of the loop, the suit was a defamation action over a Sports Illustrated article about a night of drinking at a topless bar in Florida.

SI may have just made a hefty indirect donation to the Danni "Mystique" Johnson Junior College Scholarship Fund.

Price was setup, plain and simple. If you remember when he was hired, there was a ‘what the fuck?’ negative reaction by all the Bama nation. They were pissed that they hired from outside the Bama family, outside the South, and went with some guy from the Pacific Northwest (“How will he recruit in the South?” etc, is all you heard). I am conspiracy-theorizing that many of the big donors balked at the hire, and this was a setup to get rid of him, because they literally couldn’t just ask for a do-over, fire him, and then hire someone else. It just doesn’t make sense that a football program would stand by a coach who gets caught fucking his secretary in his office, then instantly turn their back and fire a coach over salaciuos(sp), dodgy allegations of sexual activity. The former was ‘one of us’ and the latter was an outsider that was never really welcomed into the Bama Nation.

Dubose’s extra curricular activities were the reason for the abrupt firing of Price. If it hadn’t been for the Dubose scandals Price would have probably had to renegotiate his contract but he wouldn’t have been fired, but since the fatter Mike couldn’t keep it in his pants (seriously, the fact that that guy had not one but TWO women willing to take him on is the most disturbing part of the whole affair) and we were under NCAA investigation/probation they had to have a squeaky clean guy like Shula.

A split between Todd and Kanu: yes, there was some friction from AL alums regarding Price’s hiring, but Todd is correct about the short-term Dubose effect. Still shocked that Shula was hired and I’m not convinced he is to AL what Richt is to UGA, but Price sunk his own ship with this one. Price had already been warned about his behavior in Tuscaloosa with some coeds, so he shoulda known better.

I think people wanted Price out before he got there, but his exodus was quickened primarily by the still lingering shame of the DuBose scandal and to a lesser extent the bad taste everyone had in their mouth from Francione stealing away in the middle of the night. We had two bad experiences in a row and there was no way we were going to take shit off of this guy.
He HAD to know all eyes were on him and that he had zero room for big screw ups. There was even a stipulation in the contract he never signed saying he’d be dropped if he did anything to bring shame on the university. He knew in advance and promptly shot himself in the foot. DuBose already used Price’s second chance.

I have a well-connected relative in Northport, and she said that Price was fucking up from day one, buying drinks for 20-year-old gals and whatnot. Frankly, Franchione already proved someone from outside the family could be loved (he won at Auburn in ‘01 and at UT in ’02), and media hype on Price was good. But he liked to fuck around, and didn’t realize that Bama wasn’t Washington State. Remember, legendary coach Wimp Sanderson also got in trouble (flinging a potted plant at his secretary) and got canned, dooming Bama basketball for crap play for a while. This wasn’t a Bill Curry moment — Price dug his own grave.

Don Yeager is a model of integrity in investigative journalism.
After all, he wrote Under the Tarnished Dome, and there’s not a speck of mistruth in that book, is there?
I don’t feel bad for Price, but Yeager is still a libelous piece of trash.

God I love Bammer fans! Still arguing about this two and half years after the fact while their team is enjoying its most success since George Teague.
