MEYER: DAMN THE TORPEDOES
After the debacle at 'Bama, Meyer's plans for revamping the offense? Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead with the spread-option. This could either be one of those genius, how-could-we-have-doubted him moments years later, or the tipping point where we wonder how in the hell we hired the future coach of Ohio University with such fanfare.

I am not sure getting Portis more involved is the answer…actually I think that is the wrong move…you have one of the best qbs in the country…if your o-line is not blocking put two backs in the backfield leave one in for protection purposes and get it done. It should also help out the running game. You have to show that you can be successful with fundamentals before you can show your innovative capabilities.

These ARE the fundamentals for Meyer, Doc P. We’re not going to see anything like what you’re talking about until Leak gets knocked out or something good starts to happen. We have our own guesses at which one will come first.

Boy, the Man Who Invented Football has fallen from grace quicker than I thought possible. Gators may wear jeans shorts, but they definitely eat their dead. I just thought the Zooker would have taken longer to digest.

To paraphrase Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast: “No, no, no, NO, NO, NO, no, no, no, no, no, no, No, NO, no, no, no, no, no!”
Anything’s better than Zook. With Zook, we’re 3-2, including a heartbreaking dumb loss to the Vols at home, keep the blowout to Bama, penciling in a loss to LSU & UGA. But of course, everything would be “correctable.”

Yah, at least with Meyer the future is bright. I think a realistic expectation coming into this season was 9-2 or 8-3. I think people got a little excited after the big win against the Vols. It is not a good idea to get too far ahead of yourself after a strong performance COUGH Alabama fans COUGH….

We called 8-3, and we’re feeling pretty solid on that at this point.

My question is 8-3 good enough to get them to the SEC championship game this? And who will the Gators other two loses come against? I think in the long run coach Urb will get it done.
My earlier reference about Portis was from an article in gatorsports today saying how coach Meyer plans to get Portis more involved in the passing game and not just as a running threat.

Nope. Not getting there this year. The two losses will come against Georgia and FSU. No one said Year One would be pretty.

Thank God Meyer talked to Bob Davie. Otherwise we’d be stuck with this joke. God bless Charlie Weis.

Re: these comments:
“We have not done a great job of using 53 yards, the width of the field,‘’ Meyer said. "I think what we’ve done is kind of squeezed it down because that’s how we beat Tennessee – play great defense, play great field position."
Those last two comments are where great NC teams are made.
Of course much of that (and I’m not trying to take credit away from the Gators – they won!!) can be given to the Vols buffoonery – turnovers on their end of the field that UF turned into 2 measly field goals (1 first down), and a fake punt which I still claim was a good idea but poorly executed that turned into another FG. Your D did play very well but stopping our offense (with the exception of 4Q LSU game) is nothing to hold too much pride in.

We think most UF fans realize that now—thus the anxiety over the offense. For now we’re trying to strike a stoic, patient pose and insisting to ourselves that these things take time. Internally we’re clawing the paint off the walls.

Patience, Orson, patience. With Randy Sanders at the helm and supposed HS all americans all over the offense, there is no paint left on our walls. We’re starting to eat through the sheet rock for those of us in houses – I don’t know what the walls in trailers are made of.

Is 8-3 considered an “Urban Renewal” or “Orban Revival” or whatever the hell your calling it. Did the Zooker go 8-3 last year?
It’s one thing to beat up on Utah State and the occasional Texas A&M. But to make a jump to the SEC where the schedule is less forgiving than a STD from a prostitute takes balls bigger than watermelons.
Meyer will never win a NC at Florida. His offense will lead to him losing at least two games a season. The spread option might work in the MAC, or WAC, or wherever he was at last year, but against SEC defenses it will only batter and bruise his QB.
