NEW COACHES POLL TO DEBUT
Here’s an idea. What if we have coaches who understand the game AND actually have time to watch other teams play rank the top 25. Well, we’ll get to see how that grand experiment works thanks to the Master Coaches Survey, which is premiering this week. The poll will consist of a veritable who’s who of coaching greats including Bo Schembechler, John Robinson, LaVell Edwards, Hayden Fry, Frank Kush, Dick MacPherson and John Cooper. Bama fans are still trying to figure out how the Bear can participate, but the science isn’t there yet.

Never fear, Tide fans. He’ll get the Bear on the ballot.

John Robinson?!?
Why not include Paul Hackett?!!

What’s up with Stallings claiming an SEC and National Championship with a 13-0 record in 1996 in his bio.
Is Gene having a senior moment. Bama was 9-3 and Florida beat them in the SEC Championship game and went on to win the National title.

And for God’s sake!
Would it be too much to ask for somebody to give Ray Goff a call and ask him to participate?

I’m torn. On the one hand, these guys have been around the game for so long, and so INVOLVED in the game for so long, that it’s hard to imagine them making poor choices… but at the same time, something in my head keeps making me think of my Nebraska-loving Grandpa, and how TODAY’S college football just isn’t the same stuff as it was in his day. Somehow that applies. But hey, after the success (Vandals?) of the Harris Poll, I guess the only proper response is, “Another poll? Why the hell not?”

Is it sad that the Blog Poll, which is composed up of random no-life having fans on the internet does a better job than all these expensive abortions of reasoning that keep popping up? Seriously, voting for Idaho after the expense the Harris group put together to assemble that poll?

Er, Galen Hall is currently gainfully employed at Penn State, making him ineligible.

falgo, that must be some sort of type-o. it says in the point right above it that he won his national championship in 92. but that also says he won an sec title in 96, which, you’re right, belonged to florida. how the hell do they expect to give this survery some legitemacy when they can’t even get the member coaches’ stats right?

Maybe Dave Wannstedt should get a vote. I know he’s technically employed, but why not let him get a head start on the inevitable?

Well, my grandparents are buried in the same cemetary as the Bear, so I’m going to open up my channels to the afterlife and get Dr. Frankenstein on the horn. We’ll get it done.

[...] The Masters Coaches Survey–voted on by a selection of 16 retired college football coaches including former UNLV coach John Robinson, Michigan’s Bo Schembechler, BYU’s Lavelle Edwards, TAMU’s RC Slocum and Gene Stallings among others–has selected USC as the #1 team in the land in their inaugural poll. The Pac Ten is well represented with four teams in the top 15–Cal, Arizona State and UCLA come in at 10, 12 and 14 respectively. [...]

Bo knows the Big 10. I’m sure he’ll be quite fair in his assessments, like his vote for ND at 20.
More polls doesn’t improve the system, especially when the polls are completely irrelevant and run by a bunch of senile anti-wonks.
