Around SBN: Keith Hernandez Reacts To Gary Carter's Passing

WE ARE THE BOYS' TOP 25

We Are The Boys puts out his lickety-split top 25. He also suggests yet another fine gradation of specious analysis: fast risers and fallers early in the season. He thinks Cal, Utah and FSU could tank fast, while Texas A&M, Florida, Purdue, and Boise could rise faster than most. More good hairs to split in the ceiling tile-counting season.

Something you should be aware of. FAMU’s band travel budget has been cut, along with several other programs due to NCAA violations. The band won’t be hurt in number, it just won’t make as many road visits. Here’s the SP Times story on the Scandal and the Band.

BTW, still keeping an eye on NCAA 2006 for anything you might be interested in.

Cal may start off slowly, but with the first five games they play, it won’t matter. The first real test of where they stand should be at UCLA in their 6th game.

Berkeley is inconsistent? They may be, but not since I checked last.

Oh, UCLA. Yeah, they have a shot and can put up a lot of points. I am inclined to say that they may be more likely to catch Oklahoma before they get a chance to break in their new skill players, if (and this is about as big an if as there is) the defensive line is much improved over last year. UCLA did beat Cal last time they played at the Rose Bowl. Of course, Cal does have to play der Zooker before the LA game.
