IT MUST BE THE BARBECUE: SEC REFS FATTER THAN AVERAGE
It’s official: officiating in the SEC makes you fat.

Orson Swindle and Stranko Montana are two men pushing thirty who should know better than to run a college football blog, but evidently don't. Both graduated from the University of Florida, and both agree that college football is far too important to be left to the professionals.

Yes, I agree that the SEC’s problem has been coaching, manifested in really lame offenses. Where are you disagreeing with me? It’s what I’ve been trying to say (in a different way) all along. I posted on Heismanpundit.com that very same point, that the SEC was about to get much better because of the new coaches. So I am glad we agree
As for Ed, I’m not sure he will succeed offensively, because he didn’t hire a great OC, though his defense will certainly learn how to stop a wide open attack, which should get him to bowls.
Yeah, we’ll see about the predictions….just be warned: I have been on fire lately!

You tossed some absolute gobbledygook, HP. Like this:
>>>Well, the national champion only has to be better than the teams in its season.
Yes, that is undoubtedly always and completely true. It’s the one part of your argument I can’t disagree with, other than the Pac-10 has outperformed the SEC head to head since 2000. That’s because the SEC’s been in a down cycle talent-wise at the coaching level, which is why you’ve seen goobers like Tuberville with the crown lately. That will change with Meyer, Spurrier, and both improving Mississippi teams, including Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss, who has to improve things there-after all, he’s from the West Coast, and therefore far superior to his troglodyte good ole boy predecessors.;)
And as for putting this to bed? Only one thing does that-five months of football. We’ll see. Until then, we’ll continue to snag traffic with bickering and what will likely turn out to be ridiculously inaccurate predictions on the season. (Like, say, USC going 13-0 in a conference where everyone runs complex offenses and can win a title, or Florida winning out in the SEC in year one of Urban Warfare.)

One last point and I’ll put this to bed.
I told friends of mine that USC would beat OU 35-7. I said that Peterson would be a non-factor in the game. Of course, they all laughed.
But here was one of my main reasons:
OU does not throw to its backs or tight ends out of their base formation, like USC does. Peterson caught 3 balls on the year. What are the two defensive positions that are most affected by that? The strong safety and the outside linebacker. If the strong safety doesn’t have to worry about a tight end streaking down the middle, and the outside linebacker doesn’t have to worry about a back running a route, then that leaves them completely free to stuff Adrian Peterson and hold him to 33 yards at halftime (I predicted 32). It was like OU was playing at a disadvantage scheme wise.
On the other hand, the OU strong safety and linebackers were afforded no such luxury, as they couldn’t focus on stopping the run, but had to worry about coverage as well. And not only were they not used to covering, but they really didn’t understand what was going on. That’s how a team with a ton of talent gets their ass handed to them on a platter. USC could have scored 70 with ease.
